Bottle at home in London. Pours a very clear brown with a fine, foamy beige head. Aroma holds dry, toasted brown bread, some chalky cocoa, hints of tangy earth. Light sweet flavor with hints of tangy, semi-dark malts, a bit of cocoa, earth, light ash, burnt wood. Light to medium bodied with soft, fine carbonation. Light sweet finish, more toasty bread, some mellow earthy bitterness, dirt, baking cocoa. There’s some good character here, but the body is a bit thin. I actually have a tough time believing this beer is 6.8%. But the lack of oomph does make it pretty easy drinking.

Cask @ Hanging Bat [230113]. Dark ruby red, thin white head, good colour, some lacing. Aroma of soft roast, hint of burnt crust, soft berry fruits, toasted white bread. Taste of fruity sweet malts, soft berries. some toasted white bread again, interesting flavour. Palate is slightly thin, but its quite oily and smooth, sweet fruits witha dab of bitter roast. Finish is a little dry with a slightly faint metallic bitter note in the linger. Overall - this was a very fruity and tasty porter

Cask @ Hanging Bat [230113]. Light straw, slight haze, dense white head, with good lacing. Nose of soft floral light citrus hops, light pale malt background, light mellow perfumy notes. Taste of light cereal malts, hint of violets (?), citrus and floral hops, very light pale malt background. Palate has a thin body and there is very dry finish which is much more bitter. Overall - I found the finish too dry, has a good floral hop aroma

Keg @ Hanging Bat [230113] Amber, very hazy, thin head, no lacing. Aroma of caramel and light sweet toffee malts, some roasted puff candy, not keen on the caramelised orange malts. Taste is of grassy bitter hops, sweet caramel malts, some soft toffee, caramelised orange malts. Medium carbonation and body and the finish has bitter dry zest hop. Overall - it was OK but not fantastic.

Aroma: Huge aroma vanilla ice-cream and chocolate.

Appearance: Black body with a medium beige head. Great lacing.

Taste: Sweet flavours of raisin, vanilla and chocolate. Nice roasted malt character. It’s so drinkable it almost feels like a 4.0% ABV stout.

Palate: Medium body with a sleek, luscious mouthfeel. Flat carbonation.

Overall: Very sweet and rich. Surprisingly drinkable despite its strength.

Aroma: Unusual aroma - bourbon and chillies with a light fruitiness.

Appearance: Hazy golden body with a thin white head. Flat carbonation.

Taste: Very different to other IPAs I’ve tried. The fruity, hoppy flavours are there, but, having aged in Jack Daniels barrels, there’s a sweet sugary quality to it as well. The chilli isn’t overpowering - there is some heat that builds, but it doesn’t become unbearable.

Palate: Medium body with a very oily mouthfeel. Flat carbonation.

Overall: One of the most unusual beers I’ve tried. It’s good, but I wouldn’t want more than one in a sitting.

Aroma: Rich chocolate with a subtle blackcurrant aroma.

Appearance: Very dark ruby body with a thick white head.

Taste: Extremely malty - one of the maltiest beers I’ve tried, in fact. Milk chocolate, smoke and fruity blackcurrants. Low bitterness.

Palate: Medium body with a slick, oily texture. Flat carbonation.

Overall: Smooth and luscious. Very malty and the addition of blackcurrants is rather nice.

Aroma: Oats, subtle citrus and biscuit.

Appearance: Hazy red amber body with a thin white head that fades. No lacing.

Taste: Light bitterness. Distinct flavour of Ryvita biscuits. Some bread and caramel notes too.

Palate: Medium body with a slightly oily texture. Light carbonation.

Overall: Big biscuit flavours, quite unusual but pretty tasty.
