Description

11.3oz Bottle Pours a VERY dark brown witha slight tan head that quickly dissapears leaving a small ring and thin spotty lacing. Aromas are sweet dark pitted fruit, raisons apples and figs. Flavors are similar but there is brown sufggar and a smokey, woody taste there too. Sweeter that the other few I’ve had of the style. Moderate carbonation and a very thin feel. Aftertaste is a slight acidic sweet taste. Interesting but I liked "the Duchesse" better. Thanks to Captain Cougar for this one.

Hazy cold, brown coloured body with a super-thin off-white head. Aroma of sour cherries, malt, caster sugar and some off scents. Light-bodied; Super tart cherry flavour with sweet sugars following behind. Aftertaste tart and crisp-odd, but its a full-bodied feeling. Overall, nice to try and a real treat from the Dutch. I sampled this 33 cL bottle purchased at Whole Foods in Vienna, Virginia on 18-September-2004.

Orange-straw colour, clear; thinnish head, fast gone poorly fed by aged beer-like carbonation. Chalk, alcohol in the nose, bit milky as well; very faint malt and brown sugar-coated ovenapples. Very sharp alcoholic taste, marzipan, going into an uneasy sweet-perfumed-bitter balance. Burning MF, sharp, ending a bit oily. Unbalanced, unrefined beer. If this is a gladiator, those were not only sweaty buggers, but alcoholists as well.

Pours a deep reddish auburn color with a medium beige head. Thin and quick lacing. The aroma is strong sour apple along with vinegar and spice. Medium-bodied and smooth with tart fruit (apple again), yeast and some malt tastes. Also a little bit of a Cabernet or Concorde grape wine flavor. The finish is fruity and earthy and maintains the sourness. I am still having trouble appreciating this style but I would probably try this again.
