Bottle from Cotteridge Wines, drunk at home, 3rd August 18. Pours black with a big tan head. Aroma is hoppy, cocoa, dark chocolate. Taste is bitter, fruity, cocoa, liquorice, bitter coffee bean. Been after this one for a bit, it's good.

Keg at Old Coffee House. Back from the dead! It pours deep reddish - brown with a medium foamy white head. The aroma is sweet, sticky, caramel, cola cubes, red cola, cherry cola and fruit cake. The taste is bitter - sweet, toffee, raisin, fruit cake, bit of spice, earth, leather, red berry, cherry cola and tannin with a drying finish. Medium body and moderate, prickly carbonation. Pretty ok stuff for the style.

Beautiful creamy head with black underneath. She surrounded herself with ugly friends but you could tell she was the prize, 25 and so much more. Brown hair and they all jockeyed on the seats in front so she could look at me. Sultry eyes. Tried a few samplers at BrewDog before deciding on a pint, I think it was the Punk IPA (Everyone orders the Punk IPA). But here we are down the street and this beer smells like cold coffee. It tastes like cold coffee too, nice soft cocoa. Dry finish. Quite charming if not impactful. Just pure dark drinking juice. Maybe I should have got her number.

Smell seems very wet with lots of hops and some sweet roasted barley. Beige cream head sits on top of a very black body. Flavour is kind of a meaty mix of coffee and shoe leather. Wet finish but satisfying in a protein kind of way. A pretty good stout that satisfies, something often missing from stouts.

Keg at the Crosse Keys, 30/05/18. Reddish amber with a decent beige covering. Nose is biscuit malts, dried fruits, brown bread. Taste comprises orange peel, biscuit crumbs, light soap, caramel, light mineral bite. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with moderate hop bitterness. Passable example of the style.

Cask at the OCH, 06/04/18. Black with a well presented tan cap. Nose is toffee, hop dusting, light pine, CDA like, liquorice stick. Taste comprises light coffee, toffee fudge, mellow roast, red berry notes, light cacao, charred effect. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, drying close with roasted tones and mellow hop bitterness at the curtain call. Solid hopped up stout ... I'll say it again ... quite Black IPA like!
