Description
Salopian Brewery first brewed in Shrewsbury in 1995. Founded by Martin Barry on the site of the old Onions Dairy and like many breweries the kit we first brewed on was small and rudimentary at only two barrels. Brewing ceased in late 1997 due to financial problems. Our chairman Wilf Nelson joined the brewery in 1998 – Wilf coming on board gave the brewery much needed stability and vision to move to forward and brewing recommenced in January 1998.
Slowly, as cash flow permitted, we upgraded our brewing kit and replaced rusty dented vans with slightly less rusty dented vans. It was the onset of brewing a more eclectic range of cask ale, whilst embracing both traditional styles and those of our locality. 2014 saw the brewery make its final move – we hope! – to the village of Hadnall on the outskirts of Shrewsbury.

Rocky white head on murky golden coloured body. Punchy citrus & tropical fruit aroma. Medium bodied, soft over the tongue with a thinner dry clean back. Pine, resinous, grapefruit & stone fruit tastes with a sharp finish. Definitely freshens up the palate.

Cask at Shrewsbury Arms, Stafford (18/9/23). Pours a golden amber with a foamy white head and good lacing. Slightly lacking in aroma = just some hints of tangerine. In the mouth it is slightly sweet with a subtle shifting balance between malts and floral hops. Flavour has autumn fruits and oranges plus traces of tropical fruits. All let down by a sticky finish – though otherwise this is decent.

Cask at Ebenezers, Nantwich (17/9/23) - served by Nick !. Pours a hazy golden yellow with minimal white head. There’s floral hops and oranges in the aroma. In the mouth it starts off bitter with a mix of floral and traditional hop influences. But pretty soon some sweetness can be detected, and this and thelevel of bitterness fluctuate. Flavour has marmalade and tangerine, but some traces of malts. Finish is dry and slightly sticky. This is reasonable.

Lovely velvety stout. Pours near black with a bubbly tan head and milk chocolate with a hint of coconut on the nose. Smooth, medium bodied, chocolate, coffee and roasted malt, some soft dark fruits and that hint of coconut in there too, before a warming, dry bitterness finishes things off
