Description
Looking for the real taste of Antwerp? Since 1833, there has been just one address: our Antwerp City Brewery. Because when people get together in Antwerp, they do so more often than not with a Bolleke Koninck in their hand. And that’s how De Koninck has become synonymous with Antwerp –and vice-versa. Every day, we work hard to uphold this proud tradition while also experimenting on ways to perfect and reinvent the taste of Antwerp.

I Draught /I Good, very fine & dense beige head over pitch-black beer. Very boozy nose, point of stout acidity already announced, raisins with lemonjuice on rum. Rum, hard spirit, wood, liquorice, roast, alcohol-infused or -preserved oranges, again I boerejongens /I (raisins on alcohol - in this case rum). Again a welcome spike of stout acidity. Lots of alcoholheat, alcoholthinning, burning, very slick, oily feel though not really chewy-bodied. I tend to agree with other tasters - I ought not to like this, but I do. It's overpowering, yet really good.

Uit een flesje bij Margo. Troebel goud, prachtig dik wit schuim! Uitstekende tripelsmaak, zoet, goed bier!
Earlier Rating: 11/5/2017 Total Score: 3.4
Bottle at a café at the Marnixplein in Antwerp. Little head, pale color, not a very good tripel.

On tap. Pours a clear amber with a medium, creamy, long lasting, beige head that leaves curtains of lace. Sweet aroma of bready caramel malt, baked apple, Belgian yeast and light spice. Sweet flavour of bready caramel malt, orange peel, Belgian yeast and light spice in a dry finish. Medium body with an oily texture and soft carbonation. Not bad.

Review from bottle on feb 7, 2020. Pours amber with small white head. Nicely balanced. Caramel, lightly roasted malt, hint of abricot maybe. Long finish. Good stuff, but the draught version is even better.

Smell- weak, caramel notes Foam-thin, soft, some sweetness. Large head, white. Appearance- orange amber, quite carbonated. Taste-weak sweetness, some weak bitter notes, fruit notes. Not bad, but it does not wow me.

30 April 2019. At Dirk's First Home-made Beer Tasting. Cheers to all! Pours clear golden with a lasting, small, frothy, off-white head. Aroma of perfume, banana peel, apple sauce, yeast, honey, clove, gin. Taste is medium fruity sweet, ripe apple, pear & banana on supportive honey-like & bready maltiness, bitter notes of clove & grass with a perfumey edge, leading to a dry, grassy hoppy finish, more outspokenly phenolic & perfumey, some warming gin-like alcohol. Medium body, oily texture, soft carbonation. Bit of a rough player in the Tripel field but not bad.
