Can (BB 06/2007)
Pale yellow color, small white color. Fruity, lemon esters and cardboard in the nose, like in any tropical lager. Acidic, a bit estery (lemon), mostly boring cardboardish flavors. Nothing special.

Canned. Pale yellow, rich head. Dough aroma. Sweet and bready. Medium bodied and sugary with rather soft mouthfeel and low bitterness. Pretty good for a commercial lager.

Dark mahogany beer; initial golden-yellow head, collapsing. Sweet caramelly, alcohol, bit of madeira/oxydation (BBD nowhere near!), bit of wood, dark leaves. Also some dark, sweet bread aroma. Outspoken dry, near bitterish taste, with bread and malt flavours. Some basic hops, and a bit apple-like flavour. Fleetingly, but very outspoken non-sweet licorice flavour. Rather light body, very dry. Aftertaste reverts to vinous, madeira-like impression. This is supposed to be a Belgian recipe. It doesn’t taste like one, but if the brewers claim it themselves, we have to believe them, of course. Anyway, it’s the best Romanian beer so far. Thanks to Romania-traveller Stef!

A light yellow beer with a small white head. The aroma sweet malty with hints of hops. The flavor is malty, but quite thin. Another boring pilsener.

I’ve noticed many raters frequently use the term ’bland’ for a lot of beers, appropriate or not. Now listen guys: You don’t fully realize what a ’bland’ beer is before you have sampled Bucegi! A remnant of the communist era, Bucegi was withdrawn from the market in 1995, but re-launched in February 2002, to nourish some Romanians’ nostalgic sentiments of the good old bad old times.
