Description
Modern Times is a 30bbl production brewery and tasting room in the Point Loma neighborhood of San Diego. Modern Times is named after a beautifully crazy utopian community founded in 1850 (see “Modern Times was..” for the full explanation), and (almost) all of our beers are named after real utopian experiments or mythological utopias.

Draft at Beercraft. Amber/ ruby color. Aroma is a ton on resin and pine with light caramel sweetness. In the flavor caramel malts and hints of toffee are here however, the pine resin is a little over done. Comes off a bit unbalanced. Long lasting, lingering pine with a dry texture.

Dark orange. Nose is super piney. Lots of pine cone and sweet west coast maltiness. Explosive mouthfeel. Really intense sweetness, crystal and pale malt with insanely piney almost dank resinous from the core of a pine trees. Intensely bitter. Sticks around a while

Bottle. Pours with a clear, somewhat darkish golden to copper hued body with a medium sized off-white head. Aromas are of lemon, pinesol, peach, dank hops, white tea, slightly waxy, low esters, mild malt. Flavors show very low bitterness (for "100IBU") which allows sweet malt flavors and perceived sweet fruity hop flavors to shine through. Still a mildly bitter balance. Mild lemon balm, stonefruit iced tea, floral, lightly dank, grapefruit. Malt flavors are crystal and lightly biscuity. Not bad, but definitely on the sweet side for my tastes.

Lovely pour, big tan head, fine, with pitch black beer. Big nose, umami, coffee, wood and chocolate. Pretty impressive and rich. flavor is thinner than imagined, lots of coffee, some acid from the beans, lighter body then expected, black chocolate. decent flavors, but a bit thin. Good overall, though.

Can from CBB. Lovely wheat and citrus nose, plus mango, peach, oranges. Cloudy, dark gold, a bit muddy. Rich wheat malts and great fruity hops. biscuits, mango, mikan, peaches. Rather weighty malts but not overly sweet or heavy. Super drinkable. A pretty great beer.
