Description
Outer Range Brewing is a community-driven microbrewery in the small mountain town of Frisco, Colorado. Co-founder and Head Brewer Lee Cleghorn’s love of craft beer began when he lived in Belgium as a teenager, where the first beers he ever drank were world-class Belgian ales. That background has served as inspiration for his IPAs, which showcase the ester profile of these traditionally hop-forward beers. A graduate of the American Brewers Guild Brewing Science and Engineering school in Vermont, Lee runs Outer Range with his wife and co-founder Emily, who is the Chief Marketing Officer and leads the brewery’s branding, marketing, and sales efforts. They met while homebrewing beer together ten years ago, and today, brew for and with a passionate community who lives at the intersection of craft beer and the outdoor mountain lifestyle.

Can - super hazy light gold pour- nose is big citrus character (apparently three varieties of citra were used) - full body and creamy texture - very well-makes alcohol (I would believe this was in the 8% range) - big citrus throughout, light spiciness and herbal character - moderately sweet an very juicy - pithy, bitter and earthy finish - it’s really good, actually.

Med bod, highish carbo. Med-high bitter, med-light sugary sweet. Hops centered, malt in bckgr. Medium citrusy, tropical, slightly juicy impression. Med-light warmth, which is a bit impairing the overall feeling. Goodish, not greatizh.

Pint can. Melony hop aroma with notes of lychee, white grape, orange, grapefruit, tangerine and floral hops. Pours hazy pale golden colored with a finger of off white head that has excellent retention and some soapy lacing. Starts with juicy melon, orange, white grape and lychee flavors. Finishes dry but still fairly smooth with tangerine, grapefruit and floral hop flavors. Solid.

Aromas are citrus, malt, forest floor. Flavors are similar to nose. A little more sweet than bitter with okay carbonation. Okay, nothing new or special.

Tap at Ambasada. French Alps version, like everyone except for Trapped. Hazy ochre body, off-white head. Oaty aroma, light dried fruit. Oaty sweet taste, caramel, papery oxidation, bit floral... uuurgh. Fresh import, they are still selling it, but looking at their FB page this is nearing 4 months of age and that's VERY much evident. If I knew I'd consider skipping it.
