Botte from Yamaoka. Medium smoke nose, chocolate, some cream and coffee. Deep black with a frothy, tan head. Tasty. Smoke, chocolate, coffee, roasty wood, a bit of fruit. A bit ligtt in the body. Nice stuff. Good bitter finish. Quite a bit of umami. More of a lightly but nicely smoky stout as opposed to a smoked beer.

Bottle 2013 at a tasting about 8-10 months after the release. A lovely deep reddish amber. Musty tart citrus zest plum and rich malts. The taste is nutty, earthy then big zesty citrus hoppiness. It is quite smooth for 10% On tap at Bungalow 2014 release after 1 day so ultra-fresh. On tap at Bungalow, El diablo 2014 700 yen for 10oz. A n opaque Amber mahogany brown. Sweet citrusy caramel aroma. 91 IBU 10% medium-full bodied this is full of piney green hoppiness, mild cocoa & caramel from the malts. Good but I find it a bit young with the hops giving it a sharp green bitter hop character to it. Good but hang onto your bottle and open it in 6-12 months. Fresh 3.6-7 while with a bit of age on it 3.9

Tap at Bungalow, Kyoto. 5.7 %. Deep golden-amber color, small steady white head, lace. Aroma is malty with earthy hoppyness with hints of toasty sugar. Medium-bodied. Angry hops. English vibe and sweet brown sugar notes. Kind of unbalanced.

Bottle from Asahiya. 5% served in a tulip. A clear gold with a thick foamy head, a nice aroma of honey, pineapple & grains. Medium to light bodied with a scratchy rough mouthfeel, I want my fruit beers to be softer. The taste is earthy, a bit rough with some pineapple. It is ok but I want it sweeter & smoother closerbyobthe common pineapple beer cocktail in Japan. As it warmed up it gave me a bit more of what I was looking for, more pineapple flavor.

Bottle from the brewery via rakuten I believe. 2013 bottle, OG 1.092, IBU 55, Hops: Nugget, Cascade, HBC 342. Served in a snifter and shared with my angelic wife. A very dark ruby brown with a good 1 cm head of beige foam that slowly faded away leaving some clinging to the side of the glass. Really rich malty aroma of pitted fruit, figs, peaches, plums - delicious sweet fruitiness. Medium to full bodied with a dry finish. The taste is surprisingly bitter... well rather bittersweet. You get that fruity malty hit at first then it fades into a lingering lightly bitter finish. Once it starts warming up you get more caramel, some spiciness, a bit of sherry like notes. I am not a big expert in wheat wines but this is quite good.

Bottle from KBL. Weird and surprising nose, a bit unpleasant at first maybe, but then the buckwheat comes right through. Works better in the flavor, which is somewhere between a buckwheat pancake and a bowl of soba. Light citrus hopping. Impressive showcase for buckwheat, tasty though not delicious.

330 bottle. Pours relatively clear golden and has a nice foam top, staying longer than usual. Aroma is somewhat wheaty and soft - has also some fruitiness, bubble gum. Taste has really some sakura in it, or so it feels, actually nicer than I thought. Finish is quite bitter, just as if I had eaten some cherry blossoms. This beer is not bad, goes well with the experimental spirit that Sankt Gallen usually displays.
