Bottle split at GBBF ’13, thanks to Kyoto Lefty the Dutch sounding dude, 16/08/13. Light black with a moderate tan head which dissipates edgeward. Nose is vanilla, light roast, chocolate, sugars. Taste comprises dark toffee, cocoa, sugars, vanilla essence. Medium bodied, moderate carbonation, dry finish. Ok drinkable stuff but a little overly sweet and sickly, even for a sweet stout! A pint of this would become a chore I imagine!

Bottle at GBBF 2013 bottle share. It pours darkest brown with a thick light tan head. The nose is mellow roast, earth, light sweetness, vanilla, faint smoke and coffee grinds. The taste is mellow roast, sweet vanilla, treacle, sweet coffee, coconut and mild bitterness with a dry, earthy finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. Well balanced and rather drinkable. Decent.

GBBF 2013 backlog. Thanks to the RateBeer team/KyotoLefty. BOTTLE.

Colour: almost black.

Aroma: just vanilla.

Taste: sweet, nothing more than vanilla.

It is so much vanilla dominated, that it feels like artificially flavoured.

On tap at Ant ’n Bee, August 2013. Clear golden with a small white head. This was a light one with light hops, pineapple and some citrus. Also some notes of malt. Drinkable and nicely refreshing despite the light body.

33 cl bottle. Pours hazy dark brown with a small tan head. Aroma is toffee malty and vanilla. Thick malty, sweet and dense vanilla. Mild bitterness, otherwise rather sweet toffee malty with a heavy load of vanilla.

I finally tried this fall ale on tap at Marciero last October and was a bit disappointed. It was a nice lightly spiced ale but had virtually no apple flavor though the cinnamon came through. Once it warmed up to room temperature there may have been a hint of fruitiness. It seemed popular with ladies as it is light, refreshing & drinkable just not as much apple as I expected from the name.

Revisiting this beer I’m struck by it’s pretty deep mahogany brown hue and dense beige creamy foam. Sankt Gallen’s Brown Porter clocks in at 5.5% and has a soft cocoa aroma with mild caramel bites. Medium to light bodied the taste reminds me of malty English beers with cocoa, hints of caramel and even fainter gifts of tobacco. It’s well balanced and has held up well, these days I probably wouldn’t go for the pale ale but I’d buy this again. β€”β€”-2013 review 3.5β€”β€”β€”β€”β€” On sale at Yodobashi Camera. 5.5% As my wife made leftover curry, right away I thought it’s a perfect chance to have my Sankt Gallen Brown Porter! Lovely chocolate malt aroma, on a very dark brown body with a tan head of foam. The flavor is quite sweet, almost syrupy chocolate with a silky mouthfeel. Wow I got some vanilla notes in the aftertaste, it really rocks with curry.
