San Juan del Sur Cervecería, Avenida Mercado, San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua
Description
While traveling together on a number of surfing trips to Nicaragua during their college years, longtime friends and craft beer lovers Brendan DeBlois and Matt Greenberg recognized a dire need for freshly made craft beer in the “land of lakes and volcanoes.” The idea was hatched to bring craft beer to Nicaragua by building a brewpub in Nicaragua’s most famous beach town, San Juan del Sur. After leaving behind jobs in the U.S., they brought on board a third partner, Bobby Hottensen, and together worked on fine tuning a business plan. With the help of friends at Cisco Brewers in Nantucket, MA., Brendan worked alongside award-winning Brewmaster Jeff Hormer to create the recipes for “The Boom” IPA, “Nicarao” wheat beer, and “Popoyo” passion fruit ale. In early 2013, Brendan, Matt and Bobby moved down to Nicaragua to pursue the dream.

Pony can from Brewers Haven. Dark golden, light cloudiness, thick fluffy head. Malty, bready aroma, musty. More bready malts in the tadte, yeast, full. Nice mouthfeel. Right on target for the style.

Can. A golden beer with a beige head. The aroma has notes of malt and straw. The flavor is sweet with notes of straw and malt, leading to a bitter finish.

Sample from short 8 oz can. My first Nicaragua rate! Slightly hazy golden colour with a big white head. Sweet aroma with grasses, pale malts and floral notes. Earthy notes. Taste is sweet. Medium bodied. Dry, fruity finish with grasses and earthy notes. Nice, straightforward Keller.

Can. Pours clear golden with large foamy off-white head, doughy aroma, low carbonation, sweetish malty taste, thin body, abrupt finish. Clean, good for a hot summer day, but nothing special.

Beer Fridge, New York 8oz can: pours dark gold with a white head. Aroma is grainy, bready lagery stuff. Taste is somewhat sweet and grainy. Some grass. Not bitter. Enough flavor. Not a great aftertaste. Nice can.
