6% The Suginoya Stout pours a very dark cola brown with ruby highlights and thick fluffy head of beige foam that clings to the side of the glass. The aroma is roasty & savory with some fudge/caramel. Medium to light bodied with a silky mouthfeel. The taste is pretty good, roasted malts, some cocoa, a bit nutty and a savory finish. A solid stout.

Bottle direct from the brewery via Rakuten. A bit of a gusher on opening which settled down into a beautiful clear amber pour with a thick foamy head that faded into a solid film over the beer. Nice aroma, malty, nutty, toffee, fudge, caramel - a real malt showcase. Medium bodied with a smooth mouthfeel. The taste is malty, a touch nutty but it also has a tanginess... not really that hoppy but alright for all that. A malt forward beer, better in the nose than in the mouth but OK.

A fairly standard cloudy gold with a thick foamy white head that clings to the glass. A fairly malty aroma with a touch of hoppiness leads me to believe this is more of an English Pale Ale than an APA - well enough balanced though. The taste is earthy, a bit spicy, lots of biscuity malts with a dash of fruity citrus but the malts come off kind of stale. Medium bodied with a decent mouthfeel, this is a fairly middle of the road brew.

Draught at the Brewery’s restaurant in Fukuoka. Shiny black with a thick, rich, tan head. Aroma of fruit, soy sauce, cocoa; creamy and slightly vegetal—not too great. Creamy flavor of burnt malts, coffee, and a bit of chocolate. Reasonable but not special, with no real body.

Draught at the Brewery’s restaurant in Fukuoka. Bright golden color. Sweet, buttery aroma, like a typical Japanese koelsch. Light hops, very creamy. Thin palate with light caramel malt. Slightly fruity, with a rather clean finish that is slightly bitter but with little hop flavor. Ok. Refreshing and light, more like a golden ale or koelsch than a PA. Their best.

Draught at the Brewery’s restaurant in Fukuoka. Very pale copper color. Caramel and toffee nose. Light caramel flavor, with a touch of fruit and some cardboard. Thin and rather tasteless. Not much bad flavor, just almost no taste, and just about no hops. Deficient.
