Description
Omission is the first craft beer brand in the United States focused exclusively on brewing great tasting craft beers with traditional beer ingredients, including malted barley, specially crafted to remove gluten.

Brewed by Widmer Brothers Brewing, gluten levels in every batch of Omission beer are measured by the brewery and two independent labs using the R5 Competitive ELISA test to ensure that the beer meets the brewery’s standards.

330mL bottle, pours a clear copper with a small white head. Aroma is quite stale, with lots of earthiness and stale grains. Flavour is earthy, grainy and super dry. Stale and overly dry graininess like many gluten free beers. Not disastrous, but not good.

Bottle @ home, offered via the back of my fridge, clean yellow appearance with a thin white head. Aroma has stale malts, cardboard, bland grassy hops. Watery, thin, bland, cracker flavor. Not much going on and certainly not as good as some of the other Omission releases.

12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 10/7/2015. Pours lightly hazy golden orange color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense off white head with good retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass. Aromas of grapefruit, tangerine, lemon/orange peel, citrus rind, pepper, pine, light caramel, toasted bread, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Nice aromas with good balance and complexity of citrus/pine hops and moderate malt notes; with good strength. Taste of grapefruit, tangerine, lemon/orange peel, citrus rind, pepper, pine, light caramel, toasted bread, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Moderate pine/citrus rind/spicy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of grapefruit, tangerine, lemon/orange rind, pepper, pine, light caramel, toasted bread, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Nice complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/pine hops and moderate bready malt flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance and zero astringent hop flavors after the finish. Good amount of dryness from bitterness as well. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, moderately sticky/resinous, and lightly creamy/bready balanced mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a nice gluten free IPA. All around good complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/pine hops and moderate bready malt flavors; and very smooth and easy to drink. The hops weren’t as vibrant as I was hoping, but still had nice overall character/complexity. A nicely enjoyable offering.

Slightly skunked aroma of dandelion and lesser honey. Slightly hazy amber, medium head, little retention. Evenly balanced honey and lilly, good intensity. Medium body, easy carbonation. I have to say this a wonderful beer for what it is. It’s flavorful, well balanced, and delicious. I would buy this again, even though I have no dietary restrictions against gluten.

Bottle. Amber body with a frothy, off-white head. Aroma of toasted grain, caramel, grapefruit, resin. The flavor is moderately sweet and lightly bitter. It finishes lightly to moderately sweet and lightly to moderately bitter. Thin to medium body, watery/sticky texture, lively carbonation. Not much of a backbone and fairly blah flavor. But if I had to drink gluten-free beer, I’d drink this.

Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a bright yellow-gold color with a medium sized fluffy white head that left a bit of lacing. The aroma was sour, tangy, macro lager with citrus and perfume underneath. The flavor was grainy, citric and bitter with floral and herbal hops and an off presence. Long finish. Medium body. Not good.

Bottle. Pours hazy amber with airy but stable off-white head. Clear aroma of malt and hops, with notes of citrus and yeast. Bitter, hoppy flavour with grasslike touches and sweetish notes of caramel malt, fruit and yeast. Bitter and estery, rather rough, aftertaste. Easy to drink and well-balanced, but rather tame.
