Cloudy orange in color, with lasting, sticky white lace - aroma of wheat (duh), oranges, lemon rind, honey - rather hearty for a wheat - tastes like marmalade spread on toast - some citrus and spice on the tail end - quite a wonderful wheat beer.

Hazy brown ale with floaties. Honey and sweet malt aroma with light hoppyness. Sweet earthy malt with sharp hops, molasses, and alcohol warmth. Rich and thick and oily. May 2005, Capflu’s BW tasting.

Well this is a step back in the right direction after the Four. Somewhat cloudy dark brownish-orange color with a thick and foamy off-white head. The aroma is wheaty and malty. Medium-bodied with a smooth and soft texture. Flavors of wheat, citrus and caramel malt are well-balanced. The finish is wheaty with a pleasant spice and herb aftertaste. Enjoyable from start to finish.

Thanks to Darkover for the trade. Light copper color with an off-white head that literally fills the entire glass after only a small amount is poured. Aroma of malt and grain. Light-bodied with an earthy malt and clove flavor. There is a strange bitterness that is off-putting though. The finish is mildly wheaty and a little sour. I did not enjoy this one much.

Bottle pours a hazy redish amber with a modest off white head. Nice rich lacing. Sweet malty aroma with notes of honey. Flavor is woody and fairly sweet with sweet medium dark malt flavors. Slightly chalky unfilterd feel. Lightly bitter trailer. Nice. Thanks to OhioDad for this one.

Thanks to Darkover for hooking me up. Golden-orange color with a compact off-white head. Thin, spotty lacing. The aroma is mildly fruity and malty. Light-bodied and fairly lively, with light yeast, wheat and malt flavors. The finish is smooth and has a hint of citrus with a sweet aftertaste. Pretty enjoyable overall.

Golden with lots of suspended floaties and a white head that leaves a slight surface film. Aroma is malty and weak... maybe a bit of lemon peel. Flavor is crisp, light and slightly bitter at the end. Citrus and bitter are reminiscent of grapefruit peel. I wouldn’t go so far as to say it’s poorly done, but it really doesn’t excell at anything.

Thanks to my Secret Santa for this rare historic beer. The Stouts produced at Kalamazoo by Larry Bell become part of the study plan to any homebrewer who wants to have a good working knowledge of what a Stout can be. Though this one has probably lost a bit of edge over the years, it’s saving grace is that as a Stout, it can stand a bit of time without loosing all of it’s identity. A black body is covered by a small light brown head. Some licorice and smoke highlight the aroma of roast malts. Lightly sweet flavor as expected, with a somewhat thin delivery. The roast malts are subdued in this beer that straddles the line between the Stouts and Porters.
