Can from Drankenhandel Leiden. Aroma is citrusy with piney hop and biscuity grainy malt. Fairly dry finish, moderate to medium bitter. Medium body.

6/XI/25 - on tap @ DOK Brewing (Gent), BB: n/a (2025-1097)

Clear dark brown beer, practically no head. Aroma: lots of caramel, butter scotch, mocha, sweet impression, a hint of chocolate, nice! MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: lots of caramel, a bit of a sourish touch next to all the sweetness, quite some caramel, some vanilla, cocoa powder. Aftertaste: dark caramel, some chocolate, a hint of vanilla, bitter, somewhat sourish in the finish, coffee notes, good, but where’s my matcha?

Cask at Curious Gnome, Chester. Pours almost black with a small foamy tan head and good lacing. The aroma is mainly roasted malts with some hints of honey. In the mouth it is quite sweet, but with a little underlying bitterness. Flavour has roasted malts, chocolate and cocoa with hints of liquorice and vanilla coming later. A touch of fruitiness in the finish. This is decent.

Can from Tesco, Reading. I'm not a fan of white stouts, but bought this nevertheless to boost my numbers for the style - my god, the hardships we raters have go through! This one's a crystal-clear deep gold colour with a lasting white head. Rather a musty aroma, with hints of raspberry. Tastes of dried raspberries, raspberry pips and cheap white chocolate. The mustyness returns as some elderly lemons limp into view. The mouthfeel is decent - quite a full body, although the fizz does detract from it a little. Despite a light bitterness in the finish, it's definitely a bit too sweet. White chocolate muffins arrived in the aftertaste - specifically the slightly browned and toasty white chocolate chips sticking out of the top of the muffin. Overall - it's not too bad, but I still didn't really enjoy it and it didn't change my opinion that white stouts are a daft marketing gimmick that should never have made it further than the brainstorming session flipchart.
