Taster at the brewery. Pours a clear, pale, yellow color, with a small, bubbly, white head. The aroma is pine, citrus zest, vanilla, and rye. A little sweet, with a mild, off bitterness. Light body, with a sticky, lightly astringent mouthfeel. This is a mellow pils, but it's a bit harsh.

12 oz. bottle. Pours cloudy yellow, with a small, off-white ring. Strong clover honey nose, with some light yogurt, lemon, ginger, corn syrup, and dust. Very sweet, with a hint of bitterness. Medium body, with a sticky and syrupy mouthfeel. This is a cloying mess.

From May 2007

Purchased from Wilbur's in Ft Collins

This pours a deep amber/brown with little to no head of foam and has a tiny bit of lacing.

The smell is spot on for a BWSA for me. Lots of yummy caramel malt and dark fruit hitting my nose.

The taste on first sip is huge! I'm getting the big caramel that I mentioned in the smell along with some dark fruit, plum and black cherry,(light on the cherry) and a good roastiness and some grain.

Further sips in and the flavours just won't quit and yeah, the 10% abv is obviously there but taking the small sips that I'm taking, it is no way near overwhelming. I'd say it's more of a soothing effect on my taste buds and I don't get a burn when it goes down. Yum. The finish is very tasty with a mix of fruit semi sweetness and a roasty bitterness. The aftertaste lingers on for what seems like forever and in this case, that's a good thing. ;^)

The mouthfeel borders on thick, as in thick and chewy, where it *should* be, and the carbonation is light, also where it should be. I'm darned impressed with this BWSA, to say the least!

Bottom line: This is the first brew I've tried from Estes Park Brewery and my hat is off to them for making a very true to style, abundantly flavourful, and oh so tasty sipping Barleywine Style Ale. I'd buy this again without hesitation.

Bottled. Near black, beige head. Lemony salmiak aroma. Dryish with medium body and rounded, spritzy mouthfeel. An unpleasant touch of citric acid across caramel and salmiak. Resinous bitter finish. Probably infected.

12oz bottle. Old School APA. Not that impressive ever, and certainly not even close to par for 2017. Unfiltered murky orange-amber body. Thin, creamy, off-white head. Old school Ringwood style yeast tones...earthy, caramel, sweet. Resinous, but not that much hop depth. Drinkable I suppose, but not what I’m looking for in an APA.
