Description
Big Sky Brewing Company was started by Neal Leathers, Bjorn Nabozney, and Brad Robinson. Brad and Neal had been homebrewers in Michigan since the mid 1980’s, and had moved to Missoula with a group of friends in the summer of 1990. In 1993 they started to set up a brewery. After about a year and a half, Big Sky Brewing Company had enough cash in the bank and a large enough bank loan to begin purchasing equipment and renovating its original location at 120-A Hickory Street. We brewed our first batch of beer in mid-June of 1995.
The company was a draft only brewery (no bottled beer) for its first five and a half years. We brewed everything on Hickory Street, but we realized that to really become a regional player we had to find a way to put our beer into bottles. in early 2002 we broke ground on a new brewery on Trumpeter Way just north of Missoula’s airport. We began brewing in the new brewery in September of 2002 and started bottling our beer there in January of 2003. Since then, we have been where we always wanted to be, brewing and packaging all of our beer right here in Missoula.

Featured a nice blend of maltiness, roast, chocolates, and hops. Not too sweet, but very drinkable. Darked than I think of for a brown, nice rich color like that of dark chocolate. Overall a nice brown ale.

Gushing to small off-white head; clear pale amber beer. Beautiful grapey nose, C-hops, even when one taster complains of smelly feet!, aroma’s influenced by the carbonisation: definitely some lemonade-like aroma’s. Again lemonade-like, with grapey hops in the finish. Rosewater, fresh hops. Very, very diluted cookies flavour; ending again in fruity hops. Light MF and body, but not watery. Nice light but tasty archetypical American drinking beer. Nice one.

Beautiful red-brown clear beer; yellow-brown head, looking as Rodenbach Classic for all the world. Rhubarb, lactic and coffee/chicory aroma. Serious coffee flavours, but sweet, Buisman aroma, chocolate substitute. Rather watery MF, with just some retronasal thin bitterish coffeeflavour returning. Nose promesses heaven; in the taste it gets more and more towards the canoe’s floor...

Bottle: Poured a very dark brown color ale with a medium foamy off-white head with better then average retention. Aroma of molasses is quite dominant. Taste is also dominated by this strong molasses feeling, which doesn’t do it for me. Tasted like bad extract homebrew kit. Can’t see why this is rated so high…

Nothing more than a pale lager, but fairly good at being that. Yellow, with a small head. A beer with the aroma and flavor sucked out of it.

Amber colour. Light doughy-grassy aroma. Some light orangey hops work with dull pale malts and a hint of sweaty yeast. Quick finish. A little fizzy.
