Description
The Abita Brewing Company is nestled in the piney woods 30 miles north of New Orleans. In its first year, the brewery produced 1,500 barrels of beer. We had no idea what we started. Customers loved our beer! By 1994, we outgrew the original site (now our 100-seat brew pub) and moved up the road to a larger facility to keep up with demand.
We brew more than 125,000 barrels of beer and 13,500 barrels of soda of in our state-of-the-art brewing facility. Our lagers and ales are brewed in small batches, hand-crafted by a team of dedicated workers with only the highest ideals of quality. This pride, along with our brewing process, is what creates our great brews.
We are privately owned and operated by local shareholders, many who have been with us since day one.

Why is this a Winter release beer? Cloudy gold color with a small white head and fair retention. No lacing. Citrus nose. Taste follows the nose. Thin watery mouthfeel. Light body. Short acidic finish. Not their best effort. Okay summer sipper.

12oz bottle on 20th Jan 2018; my last beer of my Californian Odyssey (Dec 17-Jan 18). Drank out of a La Chouffe stemmed tulip glass at my daughters. Hazy orange body, off-white affair on top. Citrus leanings in both the hoppy nose and taste. Tropical fruits abound throughout the flavours and the beer finishes with a semi-bitter fruity bite.

Tasty oyster stout from Abita, giving up a good mix of chocolate, anise, roasted malt, and a mild brininess on the finish. Gentle caramel sweet streak underneath, while a firm hop bitterness keeps the pint from growing cloy. Could use more pungent oyster salinity, but drinkable as all hell. Creamy texture is lovely, black-brown pour leaves modest lacing. Enjoyable brew.

Fairly clear light amber and copper coloured body with a thinnish, relatively soapy white head. Aroma of light tart citrus fruit along with some lighter cardboardie malts and a dash of brine and ending with some yeast funk. Light to Medium-bodied; Strong tart flavour at first of limes and lemons and a light malty characteristic that shows some bread and ends with more of the yeast flavour and a pinch of sweetness from apples and pears. Aftertaste shows some of the brine and a little of the yeastie funk and dry malts with only a touch of the lime tartness at the very end. Overall, a decent-ish gose with more of the flavours shown as dry citrus and brine and less of anything else, but especially complexity. Easy to drink, but not showing much throughout. Not really worth trying to find unless you absolutely love the style or want to try all of Abita's products. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Total Wine in Fairfax, Virginia on 10-September-2017 for US$2,29 sampled at home in Washington on 23-December-2017.
