Bottle, bb 12/11. Bright clear orange with a large white head that laces well. Champagne-like bead. Looks like a pilsener. Aroma has oranges and earthy yeast and seems very simple at first. Later more fruits and subtle sugary and spicy things appear and grow. Taste is mostly sweet and spicy with quite complex but subtle sugar and fruit interplay. There’s pears and apricots as well as oranges and a slight sourness as well. Interesting texture - at first it seems like a heavy lager, then there is a syrupiness and then some hints of yeast and sherry creep in. Finishes bitter with wood and spices. First sniff and sip seemed like nothing special, but this has great depth and complexity. The average rating for this beer is surprising in small measure.

Bottle from La Bon Marche, Paris. Very earthy, dry, dirty aroma with a bit of caramel malt, some wood, dust, cocoa . Pale amber with a low fine head. Flavor of dry cocoa, dust, some light orange, zest, alcohol apparent, dry and austere with a nice sweet underpinning. Very complex, challenging, and interesting. Strong farmyard charcter. Interesting as hell, and a step above the others we have tried on this stay in Paris.

Off-white head, quite big, amber body. Caramel, nuts, barley, alcohol on the nose. Taste is a soothing mix of barley and caramel with a dry and spicy alcohol finish.

750 clamped and corked from Pizza Port Bottle Shop. Pours gold with a foamy white head. Aroma is mixed earth and citrus. Medium body with foamy carbonation. Flavor is pretty citrus with an earthy undernote. Malt is like pale. Finishes dry and fairly bitter. Good crisp drink.

Gusher. Pours dark amber, approaching copper with a large off-white head leaving nice lacing.Nose shows a fair amount of caramel and butterscotch followed by some oxidised port notes with soft grassy hops and spicy alcohol showing later. Very enticing.Flavours include similar malty notes before being overtaken by a plain, flat, chalky character, merging into a somewhat caustic finish dried out the by the high alcohol.Carbonation is too high, only further deteriorating that dry finish.

First of eight brews a friend brought back from Europe. The pour results in a big fluffy-foam tanned head. The retention is very long and the colour is orange-amber. Lacing is uneven, but present. The aroma is mostly fruity with strong hop. Starts with a sweet taste and finishes with a hoppy bitterness. The aftertaste left is of red apples. Slight tart mouthfeel. Definitely worth a try... if you can put your hand on it.

Originally rated June 2006 - 2006 edition, with best before date written on back label, 02/01/08. Just like their 3 Monts, metal tab around cork that is hard to take off and crazy big head. A tad on the yellow side, very creamy with intense retention and superb thick lacing all around. The brew itself is golden-orange and carbonation is very active. Yeasty nose with spices, apples, alcohol and rusted water. Slight burn, but actually quite pleasant mouthfeel. Mild apples and spices again, not too strong and mixed in with other refreshing fruits. Once you can get close to the end of the bottle, you can finally shake it slowly and the "lie" clouds up the brew. Pretty good, but still prefer the Unibroue’s on lees beers.

First off, hate that metal piece around the cork as it is real hard to take off and dangerous once it flies off (watch your eyes). Best before date is written 05.05.07 (originally rated June 2006). Pours a golden-yellow colour with a big, big white creamy head. The lacing it leaves is all around, and quite sticky. Good amount of carbonation with some tinny bubbles. Great retention. Smells very much like a Pilsener. Fruity taste with the alcohol well-hidden. Sugary finish and lingers for a while. Decent hop is present too with apples and mild citurs in the aftertaste. Gives me the idea that this is a Pilsner Malt Liquor. Even though quite good, I prefer most the of the Unibroue’s of that percentage before this one.

Enjoyed for Father’s Day with some nicely aged goat’s milk gouda - a fairly simple but enjoyable BdG - aroma of honey, lightly toasted malts, some herbals notes, and a faint muskiness - clean sweetness starts things off - toasted grain character throughout - moderate spicy hops - herbal, tea-like character - a touch of melon - a bit overly herbal and bitter in the finish, but still fairly tasty.

Bottle (3 Monts). Beautiful clear pale gold with excellent white head. Soft and subtle aroma with fruity esters, delicate spice and grassy notes. Medium body and fairly light carbonation, with a slightly oily, but pleasant, mouthfeel. Complex rich but light flavour. There’s fruit (banana) and spice and an interesting contrast with the finish which displays fresh grassy hop bitterness. Overall a very good beer.
