Description
Renaissance brewing was established in 2005 when experienced brewers Andy Deuchars and Brian Thiel purchased the lease on the historic Grove Mill in Blenheim. Andy and Brian, both natives of Southern California, had one goal in mind - to produce stunning beers in a region more renowned for the excellence of its wines. We are committed to using local ingredients and are one of the pioneers of craft brewing in New Zealand.

Bottle shared at the 2015 edition of the chriso Pre-GBBF tasting - London. Cheers! Pours clear, deep gold with a creamy, white head. The nose holds crackery pale malts, dry pine needles and rindy citrus. Medium sweet flavour, with old pine (suggestive of faded hops), dry caramel. Medium bodied with average carbonation. Finishes with grassy bitterness, toasted pale malts, pine needles and orange find. Seems a bit old and worn out, I’d say. So so.

Bottle - Vintage 2012 - Sweet toffee and a touch of spice. Cloudy copper with no head. Sweet toffee and some oxidization. Not bad, but age reduced this a bit.

330mL bottle, pours a hazy bright amber with a small off-white head. Aroma is quite intense, with notes of caramel, alcohol and dark fruits. Flavour is dominated by the dark fruits, caramel and alcohol in excellent proportion. Very fruity, boozy and caramely in good balance. Not especially sophisticated, but still well-balanced. Very good.

330ml bottle bought at Firefly liquor store, tasted at Matt’s place. Aroma and taste are very complex: sweet fruits, vinous notes, caramel, vanilla. Very good.
