Description
Aloha. That’s how most conversations begin here. It’s also how many of them end. But “Aloha” doesn’t just mean hello and goodbye and love and welcome. It means more than a word can express. It’s a feeling. A way of life. “Aloha” is the idea that we are all connected to everyone and everything around us and that true joy is found in respecting this connection. And it’s in this aloha spirit that the Kona Brewing Company was founded back in 1994 by Cameron Healy and his son Spoon Khalsa. They combined their love of Hawaii and its pristine, natural beauty with their fondness for delicious, local brews, and lucky for us, their dream lives on more than 20 years later.

So try a few of them. And join us in our pursuit of aloha.

Inspired by what makes Hawaii great? ah nope. Pour clear golden with zero head. Taste thin hay malt with a mild, yet slightly bitter resin and pine. Just underwhelming and thin. Might be decent if all its flavours where doubled.

Deep and hazy copper, bronze and robust raw honey golden tinted body shows with a large, three to four centimetre tall rich off-white head. Aroma of wheat, pineapple, guava, mango, oranges, limes and a huge hit of fructose. Light-bodied; Strong, quite funky wheat, yeast and stale bread flavours show first with way more emphasis on the malts than the fruit, somehow, with some pineapple and light lime zest showing through on the finish, but deep and very acidic with a bitter finish. Aftertaste shows some grass, hay and very floral dryness with a big kick of artificial fruit flavours at the end and a rather deep and bitter malt/wheat/yeast bite that doesn't go away at all. Overall,  a rather interesting beer that has a very nice look and smell, but unfortunately after that, the beer goes downhill, especially in terms of complexities. It looked so good from the outside, but the more I get into this, the worse it is...sadly, it's probably much  better drinking this in Kailua-Kona even with the busy parking lot, as long as you don't have to wait fourteen days to go fetch it. I sampled this twelve ounce can purchased from Harris Teeter in Arlington (Potomac Yard), Virginia on 09-June-2020 for US$1,87 sampled at my house here in Washington on 07-July-2020.

12 ounce can. Pale gold pour. Small creamy white head. Aroma of fruit cocktail. Lime, pineapple, pear and orange. Flavor follows nose. An amalgamation of canned fruit flavors. Thin-bodied with peculiar off-flavored nuances. Tastes like a Mai Tai, I suppose. Not their best effort.
