Brouwerij Palm
Commercial Brewery
in Steenhuffel,
Flemish Brabant,
Belgium 🇧🇪
Owned by
Bavaria Brouwerij (Swinkels Family Brewers)
Associated Venue: Palm Brewery
Established in 1706
Arthur kick-started the brewery’s industrial development in order to sell his beers far beyond the borders of the municipality. He also created his own “Spéciale Belge” brew. In 1929, Arthur Van Roy gave his “Spéciale Belge” the brand name “Spéciale PALM”. The brewery continued to grow before and after the second World War.
In 2014 Palm Breweries is renamed Palm Belgian Craft Brewers. A new micro-brewery is opened in order to experiment with new combinations of herbs, spices, hops, fruit and wood, and is named in honour of De Hoorn. At 10 hl, the capacity of the micro-brewery is almost exactly the same as that of the village brewery of days gone by.
On 9 May 2016, the Dutch brewery Bavaria N.V. (Swinkels Family Brewers) bought a majority stake in the company. Bavaria initially bought 60% of the shares and will expand this to 100% in 2021.

Can from a local supermarket. Aroma is wheaty with fruity hop, soft floral notes, orange, Mosaic hop, tropical notes. Flavour is a bit sweeter than I like with a decent moderate bitterness. Medium body. Not bad for a Palm beer.

Can from Drankenhandel Leiden. Aroma is modest fruity hop with orange, pale malt, peachy notes, bit soapy in the finish. Moderate bittersweet flavour, light to medium body of a session IPA. Drinkable and a bit lacking.

Can at home shared with Laura. Hazy yellow color, white head. Aroma and flavor are wheat, citrus, light citrus peel, a bit yeasty and lightly herbal. In a good way though, well balanced I must say which is quite rare. So I like this. Quite well done I'd say.

330ml bottle. Clear amber, small off white head. Caramel malts, raisin, red berries. Taste is slightly thin version of the aroma. Medium body, soft to zingy carbonation. It's ok.

Bottle at Cafe Onde de Toren, Essen, Belgium. Drink this classic a lot but never rated it. Amber looks, and more of taste than the regular one.

Tap at Cafe Schommelen, Leiden: An decent follow-up for the Bock Pils. Clear golden coloured brew with an good bitter taste, the Bock Pils was more smoother of taste.
