Brouwerij Palm
Commercial Brewery
in Steenhuffel,
Flemish Brabant,
Belgium 🇧🇪
Owned by
Bavaria Brouwerij (Swinkels Family Brewers)
Associated Venue: Palm Brewery
Established in 1706
Arthur kick-started the brewery’s industrial development in order to sell his beers far beyond the borders of the municipality. He also created his own “Spéciale Belge” brew. In 1929, Arthur Van Roy gave his “Spéciale Belge” the brand name “Spéciale PALM”. The brewery continued to grow before and after the second World War.
In 2014 Palm Breweries is renamed Palm Belgian Craft Brewers. A new micro-brewery is opened in order to experiment with new combinations of herbs, spices, hops, fruit and wood, and is named in honour of De Hoorn. At 10 hl, the capacity of the micro-brewery is almost exactly the same as that of the village brewery of days gone by.
On 9 May 2016, the Dutch brewery Bavaria N.V. (Swinkels Family Brewers) bought a majority stake in the company. Bavaria initially bought 60% of the shares and will expand this to 100% in 2021.

1/3/2025. Can from Norwich Arts Centre fundraiser following World Beer Awards. Pours a little unclear pale gold with a frothy white head. Aroma is chalky, wheaty, light herb, rubber, hint of banana, tinny. Moderate sweetness, medium and slightly unpleasant bitterness. Moderate body, average carbonation. Fair.

Amber pour, grassy/mineral nose. Flavor was a touch metallic, witb some sweet caramel malts. Very light bitter finish with a cooked veggie aftertaste.

30cl Fles van AH. Goudgele kleur, witte kraag. Fruitig, esters, vrij typisch Belgisch Blond-geurtje, smaak volgt, generiek maar niet slecht, wel vrij vlak en saai. Lichte body.

Old rating from 2017 - 330ml bottle brought back from my Belgium road trip. Pours golden with a white foamy head. Aromas & tastes of citrus, lemon, apple, pear, oak, earth, alcohol & yeast. Medium body. Very dry alcohol finish

Back in my ignorant lager/pilsener drinking days I always considered Palm a special beer, a notch above the ordinary pilseners you can get at the supermarket. Now that I have tasted stouts and abbey quadrupels the Palm isn’t so special anymore. As a Belgian Ale, it leaves much to be desired. Malty aroma with some fruity elements.

Pours a deep golden color, clear with a small head. Malty aroma of grains and fruity Nelson Sauvin hops. Lacking in body. Taste gets a little annoying after a while. A decent brew, but hardly memorable.

Pours a clear golden with a medium-sized white head. Aroma of malts, grass, some spices, some hop flavors. Rather watery and unimpressive. I ’hopped’ for more.
