Brouwerij Palm
Commercial Brewery
in Steenhuffel,
Flemish Brabant,
Belgium 🇧🇪
Owned by
Bavaria Brouwerij (Swinkels Family Brewers)
Associated Venue: Palm Brewery
Established in 1706
Arthur kick-started the brewery’s industrial development in order to sell his beers far beyond the borders of the municipality. He also created his own “Spéciale Belge” brew. In 1929, Arthur Van Roy gave his “Spéciale Belge” the brand name “Spéciale PALM”. The brewery continued to grow before and after the second World War.
In 2014 Palm Breweries is renamed Palm Belgian Craft Brewers. A new micro-brewery is opened in order to experiment with new combinations of herbs, spices, hops, fruit and wood, and is named in honour of De Hoorn. At 10 hl, the capacity of the micro-brewery is almost exactly the same as that of the village brewery of days gone by.
On 9 May 2016, the Dutch brewery Bavaria N.V. (Swinkels Family Brewers) bought a majority stake in the company. Bavaria initially bought 60% of the shares and will expand this to 100% in 2021.

Review based on the BJCP2021 guidelines (style 28B - Adapted no alcohol). Bottle 25 cl - Batch 14 02:33 (BB 14/04/24). AROMA: medium worty aroma with a medium-low herbaceous hop background. APPEARANCE: light amber color and cristal clear. medium off-white head with good retention. TASTE: initial medium worty and slightly sweet flavor, followed by low hop flavor with an herbal character. medium bitterness with a semi-dry to dry finish. MOUTHFEEL: medium-low body with meidum-low carbonation. OVERALL: unfortunately the Belgian character is completely absent in this NA version of a belgian pale ale classic.

Can from Albert Heijn.
A: hazy ochre, thin, off-white head.
A: orange, banana, apricot, wheat, vague clove.
T: sweet orange, apricot, wheat, bread, spices.
F: floral hops, yeast, banana, slight bitter orange pith.
P: medium body, slick texture, average carbonation.
Surprisingly well made attempt - perhaps influenced by 'neighbouring' Uiltje?

Clear yellow pour, large white head; aroma is mainly hops and minerals. Taste adds some malt and hints of grass and citrus. Not mind blowing, but alright overall - a welcome addition to the Eurostar menu.
