Description
In the beginning, in 2004, the Lupulus brewery was built to brew beers for the tavern next door. In 2007, the brewery decided to create a new beer, in kegs and in Champagne bottles.
The brewers wanted to offer a traditional beer with its own unique flavour, using modern equipment. The region where the brewery is based gave the brewers the inspiration they were looking for.
The brewery is housed in a magnificent old 19th century farm, a part of Ardennes heritage. The installation is based in the middle of surrounding green fields, beside a freshwater stream.
The historical record is sketchy, but we know that wolves populated the Ardennes landscape in olden times. Some say that these wolf-packs came from Slovenia, where the best hops in the world are cultivated...
True story? In any case, the wolf was behind the creation of a new beer: Lupulus. The name derives from the Latin name of the hop plant Humulus Lupulus, which means Small Humble Wolf.

Bottle, 8.5%. The aroma is slightly metallic with some dark sugar and malt syrup notes. Dark red brown colour, seems hazy and has a touch of red or chestnut. Semi-stable light brown head. The flavour starts off quite sweet with high carbonation and decent mouthfeel. Turns nicely nutty and ends drier with a fairly clean bitterness.

13/11/2022. Can bought at La Cave du 6eme KM, Noumea. Pours hazy pale orange gold with a small frothy white head. Aroma of citrus, orange, tropical fruits, grapefruit, grass. Moderate sweetness and medium bitterness. Moderate body, a little watery, average carbonation. Lacks some depth but itβs quite drinkable.

Sample at Van Moll, from bottle. Brown color, small head. Aroma and flavor are malts, brown malts, bourbon, light coffee notes, pleasant bitterness in the finish. Nice one! --- Beer merged from original tick of La Nuit Americaine on 24 Mar 2024 at 16:03 - Score: Appearance - 7 | Aroma - 6.5 | Flavor - 6 | Texture - 5 | Overall - 6. Original review text: Draught at Van Moll Brewpub. Brown to black colored beer, virtually no head. Aroma is malts, heavily BA, oddly fruity. Flavor however is way less explicitly BA imo, don't really get so much tbh, malts, brownish malts, sweet at first, bitter-ish in the finish. A bit thin texture. Hmm not their best imo.

Almost black beer, a head is big and beige. Aroma has sweet dried fruits, then some balancing roastiness and liquorice. Taste has sweetness, dried fruits, roastiness, fudge. Medium+ bodied. This is interesting and quite unique beer. Funny. Success.
