Description
In the beginning, in 2004, the Lupulus brewery was built to brew beers for the tavern next door. In 2007, the brewery decided to create a new beer, in kegs and in Champagne bottles. The brewers wanted to offer a traditional beer with its own unique flavour, using modern equipment. The region where the brewery is based gave the brewers the inspiration they were looking for. The brewery is housed in a magnificent old 19th century farm, a part of Ardennes heritage. The installation is based in the middle of surrounding green fields, beside a freshwater stream. The historical record is sketchy, but we know that wolves populated the Ardennes landscape in olden times. Some say that these wolf-packs came from Slovenia, where the best hops in the world are cultivated... True story? In any case, the wolf was behind the creation of a new beer: Lupulus. The name derives from the Latin name of the hop plant Humulus Lupulus, which means Small Humble Wolf.

Small white head over (cold) veiled golden beer. Creamy nose, with cocosmilk in front, almost as opening a can of cocosmilk. In the background some fruity esters, and cilandro. Bitter taste with cocos. Bit of unripe banana... and not much else. Bit creamy texture too; good carbonation, at least medium bodied. Not bad, but I miss some more convincing IPA features.

Small if stable fluffy white head over fully hazy yellow beer. Grapefruit(peel), other citrus, green & exotic fruit, hint @ asafoetida, fresh leaves and blossoms. Pure grapefruit in the taste, but not very bitter. Again some asafoetida, watercolour paint, leafy flavours. Finish has some stearine. Slightly burning MF, very hopoilslick, spritzy carbonation, refreshing. Medium bodied. Excellent, almost outstanding NEIPA.

Stor kropp, relativt komplex, trevlig lite annorlunda stark brune. Gott

Lightly hazy golden with a white head. Aroma of big dank hops, citrus, tropical fruits, pineapple, lychee, mango and peach. Flavour is moderate sweet and bitter. Medium bodied with soft carbonation. Damn cheap even here in NL but pretty good!

Good, light-yellowish, fluffy and stable head over clear golden beer. C-hops' onslaught upon pouring; lemon, lemonpeel, bit floral, banana, wheat (sourish). Drier as expected, maltier too. The oats are even more conspicuous than the wheat, despite its appearance in the nose. The surrounding flavour, however, is still citrussy notes, suggesting acidity. Yet malts rule. MF is its Achilles' heel. The feel, certainly the finish, is watery, gassy through the carbonation. Bit wheatslick; not very long-lasting flavours. Good, lovable nose, but not really great.

Pours unclear blonde, medium sized white head. Smell is smooth, medium mild tropical fruits. Taste is lemon)forward, tropical in the back. Creamy, thirst quenchening, refreshing. Medium low bitterness. Very nice ! to my surprise, lupulus can even make one of the first good NEIPA's in BE. Shame it's such a small batch, this should be re-made and be easely available. Especially at this pricepoint, the quality provided is insanely good.

Bouteille 33cl, BB 25/08/2023.
