From tap. Pours hazy amber to brown, small tan head. Aroma is phenolic, fruity, toasted dark malty. Bitter, phenolic and toasted malt. Sweet and ligering caramelish to sweet malty. Slight fruity finish. ​

The organic version in this series, a brand Herslev is apparently still tinkering with; intended as a Belgian style quadrupel spiced with star anise and coriander seed. Bottle straight from Denmark, thanks to my girlfriend Goedele. Irregular, moussy, pale greyish beige head lacing in dots over a dark but translucent bronze-brown beer with mahogany hue. Aroma of caramel candy, dried plum, raisins, wet toast, coriander seed, walnut liqueur, bread dough, dry tree leaves, star anise but subtly so, port-like onsetting oxidation, pear syrup, fig, cocoa dust, some iron. Sweet dried plums and figs in the onset, caramelly malt sweet body, full and softly carbonated with a resinous and lightly metallic edge; toasty bitter accent in the end, Scotch-like with coriander and star anise noticeable but subtle enough not to disturb - something a lot of actual Belgian strong brown ales can learn from. Warming, rum- and port-like alcohol, a chalky effect, lingering toasty bitterish and caramelly sweet malts and a soft herbal hop bitter touch round things off, with the coriander seed spiciness lingering a bit afterwards. A Belgian style Scotch or Christmas ale of sorts, not bad apart from that vague metallic note, tasteful, rich and honestly better than expected.

'Seaweed APA' from a Danish brewery in Roskilde, thanks Goedele for the bottle! Tightly membranous-lacing, medium thick, moussy, egg-white, stable head over a misty deep peachy-tinged straw blonde beer. Aroma initially lightstruck (the 'cat pee' effect) but once this has faded, as it usually does, more flattering impressions appear: old dried lemon peel, dusty grains, olive oil, bread crumbs, dry grass, chicken spices. Clean and restrained fruitiness, banana peel and a dash of apple, softish carbonation, supple and bit oily mouthfeel, sourish grainy basis with thin bready edges; long hoppy finish, grassy, peppery and a bit zesty with a grapefruit hint, drying and quite long. Seaweed, which I expected to find as a salty accent, remains all but absent. Straightforward, but decent modern pale ale Anglo-Saxon style, enjoyable and quenching.

Tap @ Koht. Dark mahogany pour with lots of foam on the top, getting slowly lower and reducing into just a thin layer of bubbles. Nose is a bit soapy, smoke yes but covered with that soap, light hint of bitterness. Tastes caramelly, light smoke and lots of malts. Some saison yeast spice but not really that apparent, subdued with overall malty caramelly character of this beer. Not bad but a bit meh I think.

Draught at KØ18. Cloudy pale golden colour. Small white head. Dry and flowery hop note. Medium bitterness.

Draught, 3.5% at KØ18. Weak apple aroma. Cloudy yellow colour. Mild apple sweetness, then a good apple acid. Not dry and not sweet.

Draught at KØ18. Mild citric aroma. Almost clear dark brown colour. Small off-white head. The flavour is citric but not sour. Clean and not lemony.
