330ml bottle @ Cafe Boutique, Kemmel. Pours a hazed medium brown, large tan head. Aroma of soft donker malt. Pleasant easy going donker overall, smooth, moderate sweetness, low-lying toffee, malt-forward with a gentle yeast tangent. Fine overall.

Donkergeel troebel bier met mooie schuimkraag. Smaak is krachtig bitterzoet met iets van citrus, wat banaan en een vleug koriander.

Bottle 0m33ltr: Dark brown coloured brew with an decent roasted malts and caramel taste,, and sweet bitter finish. Quite pro-Flemish beer label.

Bottle from Drinks Vanuxeem, Ploegsteert, Belgium. Pours a light mahogany colour with a medium sized creamy beige head. Aromas of dry dark fruits, plums, brown bread, chocolate, liquorice, brown sugar and warming alcohol. Taste is fairly tart with more of the dark fruity notes, faint liquorice, brown sugar and more of the warming alcohol. Some bitterness linger on the finish. Thinnish body with light fizzy carbonation. Not well balanced and a bit cloyingly sweet after a few mouthfuls. Below par Dubbel in my opinion. Not great.

33cl bottle from Bier-en wijnhuis beer store, Bertem near Leuven, BE. F: big, egg-white, good retention. C: gold, light hazy. A: banana, apricot, pear, coriander, alcohol touch. T: full malty base, taste is better than aroma, banana, pears, red apples peels, coriander, decent bitterness, not bad for the style, enjoyed.

Bottle from Drinks Vanuxeem, Ploegsteert, Belgium. Pours a slightly hazy light golden colour with a huge foamy white head. Aromas of yellow fruits, apples, pears and bubblegum. Taste has more yellow fruits, pears, a hint of bubblegum with some peppery spice, a touch of warming alcohol and also a gentle hoppy bitterness on the sweetish finish. Nicely balanced. Medium body and average carbonation. Nice quality above average Tripel. Enjoyed.

Can from Beers@Moviefun. Clear golden, thin, white head. Aroma of grain, yeast, unbaked bread, apple, vague cauliflower. Taste has neutral sweetish yellow fruit, subtle apple & pear, grain, yeast, some cooked cabbage & bready malt. Low grassy hoppy finish, grain, a bit metallic. Light body, slick texture, watery texture. Quenching, okay.

Bottle from Geers. Pours clear brown with a thin, tan head. Aroma of licorice, caramel, raisin, dried banana, wet clove, faint toast, tobacco. Taste has sweet caramel, licorice, raisin & estery banana, a bit spicy bitter & even a bit toasty. Dryish, malty, slightly herbal hoppy finish, more caramel & dried banana, soft dash of warming liqueur alcohol. Medium body, oily texture, lively carbonation. Redundant beer but I can enjoy a decent (cliché) Dubbel from time to time. Seriously though, why not making something as bold as the 'Vlaamsche leeuw' itself? This one is too easily tamed, if you catch my drift...

Cette Vlaamsche Leeuw fait partie du lot des bières ennuyeuses à oublier. Sur une base maltée peu élaborée portant essentiellement sur le caramel (teintée légèrement par de la prune et du chocolat, mais de façon très discrète), l'amertume apporte des épices (coriandre, poivre, pointe girofle), mais celles-ci sont trop présentes et ne se marie pas particulièrement bien à la base. La texture trop fine n'a pas non plus ma préférence avec pourtant un sucre trop poussé. L'alcool à 7,5% est tout de même honnête. En verre, le brun limpide n'est pas désagréable. La mousse est cependant peu abondante et ne recouvre pas entièrement la surface. Le nez est peu emballant sur le caramel, le sucre candi et les épices (notamment coriandre). A l'attaque la présence relativement marquée des épices surprend. La base maltée y est peu intéressante (caramel) et l'amertume fraîche arrive à bien s'exprimer. La deuxième bouche est plus ample avec des notes de prunes et de chocolat qui enrichissent légèrement la bière. L’arrière-bouche est quelque peu agressive, bien que d'une bonne ampleur, et avec des épices trop présentes. Le final, d'une bonne longueur se positionne sur l'amertume accompagnée de légers arômes de caramel et chocolat. Difficile de se passionner.
