Description
Terrapin Beer Co. was born when two brewers met while working together at a microbrewery in Atlanta. Spike and John felt they could make a contribution to the burgeoning Southeastern craft beer scene. Realizing that anyone could make another basic pale ale, brown ale, or stout, Spike and John set their sights on creating beers unlike any that were currently available in the Southeast.
Unique beers needed a unique location and what better place than Athens, GA? Home to the University of Georgia, Athens has a rich culture of music, food, classic Southern charm, and more than a little eclectic attitude. Spike and John knew from the start that the Classic City would be Terrapin’s home.
The guys introduced Terrapin’s first beer, Terrapin Rye, in April of 2002. While still available only on draft and only in downtown Athens, this sole offering won the American Pale Ale Gold Medal at the 2002 Great American Beer Festival. At only six months old, Terrapin had arrived in style!
History rolls forward and so too has Terrapin. These days John and Spike are enjoying Terrapin’s 40,000 square foot brewing facility, 100 BBL brewing system, and are taking full advantage of the space to continue bringing innovative and exciting brews to craft beer lovers. The brewery now has a portfolio of 5 year-round beers, 4 Seasonal Sessions beers, the Monster Beer Tour collection of high-gravity selections, and the Side Project series of one-time brewing improvisations, as well as several Special Releases and collaborations annually. Terrapin has developed a reputation for high-quality beers that push the boundaries of creative brewing and has garnered several awards both in the U.S.A and internationally.

Pretty hazy golden and peach coloured body with a thick, three to four centimetre tall off-white head that stays afloat for a long time. Aroma of oranges and grapefruity notes with some light wheat and oaty scents from the malt bill here, but the fruits are strongest. Medium-bodied; Strong citrusey and grapefruit notes show at first and contribute a lot of bitterness from the hops here with some of the alpha acids peeking through, but the malt balance is pretty nice with a big wheatie flavour. Aftertaste shows some light sweetness from the fruity side of things, but the oranges and grapefruit bring out more of the bitterness, all balanced out decently well by the wheatie malts with the hops showing strongest throughout. Overall, a decent New England IPA that has some light bitterness and fruit notes, but the wheatie malts are very easy-going with some light sweetness here that provides a drinkable beer with some nice flavours, just not a lot of complexity. I sampled this sixteen ounce, pint-sized can, purchased from Kroger in [downtown] Savannah, Georgia on 27-December-2022 for US$2,50 sampled a day later in my hotel room here in Orlando, Florida on 27-December-2022 with my wife and three kids on vacation over Christmas Vacation.

12oz. can, 6.1% ABV
AROMA: Nice scents of brown sugar, cream, and milk chocolate, with subtle hints of coffee. If I inhale very slowly I can get an ever-so-faint wisp of white chocolate at the very end, but it's gone almost instantaneously.
APPEARANCE: Pours an (almost black) dark brown, with a tall, tightly packed, dark brown head that dissipates slowly with medium lacing.
TASTE: I first taste sweetness, quickly followed by milk, sugar, and chocolate. Then I get hints of coffee and brown sugar. The finish is long and consists mainly of the stout's coffee and brown sugar flavors. Although you still get some of the milk chocolate sweetness coming through too. What I don't get, is white chocolate. Zero, zip, zilch, nada. Did I mention "none"?
MOUTHFEEL: This is a full-bodied beer with a luxuriously smooth texture and average carbonation.
OVERALL: The flavor of the beer leans more heavily towards the milk chocolate and sugar, than the stout. However, there is still plenty of supporting stout flavor for the stout lovers among us! Add to that the incredibly enticing aromas and body, and you have a really nice beer! Unfortunately, given that I don't detect any white chocolate flavor, I really don't see any difference between this beer and the regular Moo-Hoo Chocolate Milk Stout. Which begs the question, "What's the point of making this beer?"

Can - first beer of a Disney vacation - old school imperial ipa - fairly sweet, medium sticky malt character - assertive hoppiness, bordering on abrasive - kind of hot finish - meh.

Very much an imperialized Hopsecutioner, offering up the same fruit salad notes with a massive honey-corn syrup sweetness on the back end. Deep clingy bitter streak is nice, but clashes somewhat with the outsized sweet middle, leading to a medicinal finish. Spicy and boozy; Depth Perception is a far superior Terrapin DIPA.

Draft pour pint enjoyed at Animal Kingdom. Again, this park totally gets it, and magic kingdom just doesn't. Very dark copper appearance, cream foam head. Really spicy malt bill, aroma and flavor. Bready over caramel, bold spices. Sharp finish. Really nice brew enjoyed during the absolute downpour.
