Classic old-school DIPA, heavy on the caramel, orange marmalade, grapefruit, and pine, with a vicious hop bite on the back end leading to a lingering bitter finish. Sweetness grows as it warms, becoming surprisingly malty as the pint goes on, but the oily hop vitriol helps keep things good and surly. Only real issue is the nose, surprisingly tame for this large an IPA. Not bad.

On tap at Pizza Port Solana, Solana Beach, California, USA (back in Oct 2006). My old notes say, hazy golden/yellow coloured pour with a medium white head on top. Hoppy, malty, citrus, orange, grapefruit aroma and taste. Bitter finale, decent effort.

From a 473ml can on 27/1/2020. Pours a clrearish medium golden with a medium head. The nose is typical WC IPA with caramel and citrus fruit. In the mouth, it's flavoursome and nicely balanced. A big caramel and biscuit malt backbone, sweet citrus fruit, and a very firm pine/resin bitterness. Full bodied with moderate bitterness. Had their DIPA yesterday, which was really good. This is arguably even better. A terrific flavoursome, beautifully balanced IPA.

From a 473ml can on 26/1/2020. Pours a clear medium golden with a medium head. The aroma is quite malty with lots of caramel, as well as quite a bit of fruit. The flavour presents very much the same as the nose- a big caramel backbone with a good dash of sweet citrus, and some firmish hops finishing off proceedings. The mouthfeel is slightly syrupy and the carbonation moderate. A really solid and enjoyable WC DIPA.

[On tap at Mike’s BBQ, Escondido, CA.] A dark reddish copper pour with a thin beige head; rye aroma; rye taste with a touch of spice and a malty caramel body; then a fruity bitterness leading to a dry finish. Nicely put together but not a memorable beer.

Can from Tokyo Food Show. Nice tropical fruit aroma, little bit of pleasant mustiness, minerals, pineapple, light pine. Taste is very nice, fruity at the start with a bitter finish. Mango, grapefruit, something quite sweet. Good stuff. Alcohol is well hidden.
