Description
For years we brewed beers in our basement when we read an article in October 2010 about the Brouwland beer competition. We decided to risk our chances and sent our version of a Trappist beer, a dark beer, full malt, of 10%.In March 2011 we were informed that we were selected for the final. Beginning in April 2011 was ultimately the final. The seven finalist beers were tasted by beer connoisseurs, Zythologists Rijckers Anne and Yannick De Cocteau and some Belgian brew masters like Paul Arnott (Dubuisson), and Jean-Marie De Rock (Orval). The first beers were tasted and judged one for one, much was noted. Mutually there was not much talk together ,until they started our beer (the final seven beers were tasted in order of alcohol). All jurors began to talk to each other and two of them even gave us a thumbs up. Then, we knew it was good. After fifteen minutes of deliberations they announced the winner … Vliegend Paard Brouwers from Oedelem with their Préaris Quadrupel.

Bottle picked up at Vinmonopolet Vika. Foamy off-white head resting on top of a clear amber coloured body. Spotty lacing. Dry and smooth malt-fruity nose. Fresh fruity and floral hops to the taste character leading to a mid-dry bitter tail. Soft in the mouth. Medium to full bodied. Refreshing and flavoursome ipa (hotel room, Oslo 08.12.2014)

Cloudy yellow golden colour, big frothy white head, lasts for a while, after receding thin layer with yeast islets, good lacing. Aroma light malty, fruity, pineapple, starfruit, yeasty, citrus. Taste light sweet and moderate bitter, fruity. Medium body, oily texture, average carbonation, finish dry bittersweet, bit spicy, earthy and herbal notes. Overall a nice hoppy beer, saison style.

A dark orange beer with a medium and blond head. The aroma is not typical, fruits from yeast, sweet mandarin, other fruits, marzipan. Taste is strongly citrusfruity, also other fruits, the max medium bitterness in the end and that’s long lasting. Medium bodied, fresh, balanced carbonation. Fruitful, quite mildly bitter, belgian-IPA. Quite good.

Bottle at home. The colour is golden dark straw with off-white foam. Aroma of Belgian yeast, pale malt and some soap, DMS, sweet corn, spices and pears. The flavour has pale malt, spices, hay and hops. A little dry in the end. Has a slick mouth feel, and a balanced bitterness. Strange aroma but the taste is better. A nice hoppy touch, and is similar to a pilsener in fact.
