Description
six°north was established in 2013. The concept was born in Belgium when founder Robert Lindsay fell in love with the country’s beer culture and tradition. He soon returned to north east Scotland to start brewing his own beers, six°north of Brussels. We make modern, artisanal beers that are driven by Belgian brewing tradition and inspired by modern brewing practices.

Our beers are unfiltered and carbonated naturally through secondary fermentation. We brew classic Belgian inspired beers, as well as modern, hop-forward styles. We also release a number of collaboration beers each year with other breweries.

Can. Slightly hazy golden/amber body with a thin head that fades. Low carbonation. No lacing. Aroma of champagne and cooking apple. Flavour of tart cooking apple and vinegar. Thin to medium body with a slick texture. Soft fizz. This smelled interesting but tasted far too sharp and vinegary for my taste. I couldn’t finish it.

Panda at home, thanks to Kenneth, 09/07/24. Extremely dark mahogany brown veering to black with a khaki cap that thins to a swirl. Nose is whisky barrel, spice, dark malts, molasses, tangy dried fruit rinds, herb, fruit cake mix, oak. Taste carries a big whisky kick, figgy jam, toffee, vinous, good barrel tones, raisins, dried red berries, oak. Medium bodied with bite, fine carbonation, semi drying close with a kiss of alcohol. Fair complex sipper for the style.

Can from Westhill Service Station. It pours a bright purple with a dissipating pinky - white head. The aroma is bright and tangy, juicy, loads of berry, blackcurrant, bramble, cranberry, touch of whisky fudge, vinous vibes and sherry. The taste is crispy, dry, snappy, tart, puckering, sour blackcurrant, bramble, cranberry, lactic twang, vinous, sherry, dry oal, tannin and jammy vibes with a drying finale. Lighter end of medium body and modey, supportive carbonation. Rounded and nice depth. A classy offering.

Can from Westhill Service Station. It pours clear amber with a decent fluffy white head. The aroma is sweet and intoxicating, heady notes of rum, dried fruits, rum soaked fruits, vanilla, gingerbread, ripe melon, poached pears, boozey warmth, toffee, cacao, white chocolate and some nuttiness. The taste is dry initially, sweet - sour, rum shines through straight away, toffee, brown sugar, dried fruits, raisin, sultana, fruit cake, rum soaked oak, tannin, warming booze, estery fruits, melon, pear, candied ginger, green banana, bready, cakey malt and a touch of spice with a drying, warming finish. Medium - full body, moderate carbonation and soft body. Exquisite. Love that rum character here. The base beer holds it's own also. Shows 6DN still have it.

Can from Westhill Service Station. It pours proper turbid cloudy beige - good with a dissipating white head. The aroma is initially has some damp spent grain and farmyard vibes about it which dissipate with time... Then it gets bight and tropical, juicy, lemony citrus, citrone, pineapple chunks mango and some damp weed. The taste is crispy, dry, snappy and has a punchy bitterness which lingers throughout, green, weedy, dank, pithy, zesty, lemon, lime, grapefruit, bitter orange peel, campari, prickly pine, pineapple, slightly unripe mango, peach, nectarine and some peppery spice with a lingering bitter - green finish. Light+ body and fine, supporting carbonation. A ludicrous amount of hops in this one. Body is quite impressive for a nolo. Shame the spent grain aroma detracts from he experience a bit, but will definitely return to this.

Can. Near clear gold beer, small pale cream colour head. Palate is light and semi dry, good fine minerally carbonation. Light but notably present pale malts, a trace of grain. Great white burgundy barrell, robust Chardonnay like flavour, on steroids. A mild peachy wine and vanilla oak. Light finish. Unusual barrelling and it works very well. Another very pleasing 6DN winey beer.

Can. Near clear deep amber brown beer, bubbly tan head that doesn't last. A pretty light and mildly dry palate, reasonable fine minerally carbonation. The malts are a little thin in the mouthfeel but rich enough in flavour. Light malt cream and a nice caramel - toffee streak, not overly sweet or Scopey would never have given this a 4.1! A pretty modest oak induced vanilla along with much less modest whiskey soaked ripe fruits. Trace of estery something or other before a light finish brings a mild alcohol spice. A tidy number all round.
