Description
De Neve was founded in 1792, though the brewery site dates back to 1772. In addition to producing Lambic, Gueuze, and Kriek, De Neve also produced "high fermentation" (top-fermented) ales such as Nèval Kadet, Nèval Speciale, and Rodal Bier. In 1975, the brewery was acquired by Belle-Vue under Constant Vandenstock, which was itself later acquired by Interbrew in 1991. Despite public protests led by nonprofit group Objectieve Bierproevers (OBP), the brewery was closed three years later in 1994. After sitting vacant for over 20 years, the brewery site was sold in 2006, with plans for a loft apartment building complex. The buildings that formerly housed the brewery were recently converted to luxury apartments.

37,5cl bottle. Vintage BB 1999. Bottle purchased at De Heeren Van liedekercke. Ohh Bwoy! Pours unclear orange with no head on top. Nose is sour with notes of wood, dust, cellar, barnyard & leather. Flat carbonation. Smooth mouthfeel. Perfectly aged. Lovely sour bite. Dry, lemony brett-ish and crisp. This brings me back to Belgium and De heeren inparticular. Also a reason why I am going back there the next time im leaving my country. Shit . . This is great!

1995 bottle. A reddish amber gueuze with a thin big bubbled white head. A rather oxidized gueuze with notes of honey and leather. In mouth, still a nice gueuze with rhubarb, leather, cherries. a bit of oxidation noted but still in good shape. Bottle at Kulminator, Nov. 2006, with Joris and Carlo.

Bottle at Heeren van Liedekercke, Belgium, 26-07-08 This was a 1994 bottle. Poured amber in colour with some haze quite still with little head to be noted. Really quite good acidic bite, reminding one of sour cooking apples, some jiffy lemon and mustiness complete this. Nice beer in lovely surroundings thanks to Mes for pointing me in the direction of this place.

Date is 12/1999, pretty sure that means best before. Pours from traditional lambic basket witha dark clear golden, almost orange, color and a strong but small head. Aroma is all cobwebs, attic of a barnyard, definitely lots of older gueze and then a final spritz of lemon brett. Taste hits you wiht a burst of lemon-y brett then an aggressive acidity from the brett. Then there is a final strong acidic kick at the end that really dries one out and tingles the back of the throat. It;s all aged and bretty all over, wonderful. Long aftertaste of lemon. Lots of sediment at the end of the bottle that murkies up the beer.

(3/9/08) Bottle at De Heeren van Liedekercke in Denderleeuw. Best before 12/99. Deep hazy golden with almost no head at all. Citric aroma. Sharp citric sour flavor with something a bit weird that I can’t recognize. Medium-bodied.
