Antidoot reprising its wormwood-kumquat farmhouse ale from 2024, but using a different combo of citrus fruits (with even one added) so structurally different from the first edition - supposedly intended as an improvement. Shared by Bart A. on Proevertjesdag. Medium sized, off-white, opening, lacing head, initially clear warm deep old golden robe, misty further on. Intense aroma of very strong citron rind ('cedrat' as they name it), fresh grapefruit zest and fresh kumquat, very recognisable wormwood as well, also a hint of burning cedarwood, pine resin, spice crackers, 'kruidenbittertje', green apple, bitter honey. Fruity onset in a dryish, tart way, green apple slices and crushed green gooseberry quickly superseded by extreme citrusiness, in an utterly zesty, herbal way, unlike any other beer I ever had; fresh lemon and grapefruit zest, citron recognisable and kumquat taking over a bit further down the road - but the combo of these four different citrus species, reinforced by the wormwood, completely dominates the beer, which shows a nonetheless pleasant cracker-like pale malt quality. Long-lasting flavours (even more concentrated in the very 'soul' of the bottle) create quite a unique experience, with long, quinine-like wormwood and hop bitterness in the end - like a traditional bitter, but far more colourful and radiant because of all that flashy citrusiness. I had this young - too young perhaps, as the sharpest edges of that extreme citrus-zestiness will probably be shaved off a bit during cellaring, but it was all the more memorable for it. Not accessible to a larger audience, that much is clear, but this was probably never Antidoot's intention anyway - probably like its 2024 predecessor, this is an experimental, adventurous and bold 'essay' of a beer, painted with bold strokes, but fascinating and challenging. It had been a long time since I last had an Antidoot beer - I had almost forgotten how creative and inventive these guys are. One to love or hate I suppose, but if you can take a great deal of herbal spiciness, this is for you. Have a point for sheer boldness alone - boldness in a tasteful way, mind you.

Pours a clear, darker blonde. Medium large white head fades very fast. Scent is funky, oak, herbal,-perfumy and brett. Taste is tart, but balanced. Dry, but not overly so. Emphasis on the wormwood, makes it very herbal - perhaps slightly more than I'd prefer myself. Medium low carbonation. Balanced, very balanced even. More of a culinairy beer to me than a stand-alone drinker though. Bitter finish.

Bottled march 2022 - 4 years already ...

Pours a dark brown, copper, chestnut colour. Creamy, brown-white-creamcolored head. Scent is very sharp and glue, paint - like (not the direction of acetaldehyde, at all) . Hmm.. Taste is sharp, intensely acidic and bonedry, woody, mild velpon, earhty, herbal notes. Sharp, dry, slightly woody finish. Very weird, very clashing to me. Starts of with a very loud intensity, ends very abrubt, dry and lingering only very fine elements.
Without speaking about the actual quality here, this is probably my least favorite (or one of my least favorite) Antidoot's to date.

Pours a hazed amberblonde. Small, relatively fast fading white head. Scent is very full, grainy, oaky, wheat, brett. more lambic like than other Antidoot's. Taste is full, acidic, acetic, very oaky, brett forward. ofcourse grainy - but in that terms it's very lambic-y, not the very different blend I would have expected after reading the label. Very refined again, bit buttery, which makes it distinctively different to actual lambic, but it's got the same funky, slightly sulphuric, balanced acidity and oakyness. Not very representative for the brewery to me, this is a real stand alone beer, somewhere between a very malty, mildly acidic actual lambic, and a base-beer by antidoot. Very cool. Lovely drinking beer.
