Description
Cedar Cider is a farm based cidery located in the Hazelmere Valley, South Surrey, British Columbia. Our focus is on 100% organic farming practices, growing heritage trees and picking the fruit by hand. We produce small batch natural ciders, using wild yeasts, barrel aging and barrel ferments to obtain complex flavours highlighting the unique qualities of the fruits. All of our product is unpasteurized and unfiltered, with no sugars or acids added. Best kept cold.
Our orchards were established to include dessert, bittersweet, and bittersharp apple varieties grown from heirloom and heritage trees. The orchards are located in the Campbell River Valley, along the Fraser River in Agassiz, and the north Arrow Lake in British Columbia. The inspiration for natural ciders comes from a history and enjoyment of basque and west country styles from the old world.

Nice underlying cider is off-dry and champagne like. Sugars sort of mess that up- the sugar may support the adjuncts but it covers up some of the complexity.

Slight orangey-pink, the nose goes in a foul sort of rotting meat direction - autolysis? Fruity, off-dry, some rose notes.

Bottle sampled at BC Cider Fest 2024, pours a cloudy dark pinkish amber with a tiny white head. Aroma isn't pleasant, with a lot of fungal notes, and muddled hibiscus. Flavour is not pleasant — you can tell there's a good cider underneath, with that champagne character, but then the sweetness and adjuncts overtake. Okay execution on the champagne part, but the sugar and adjuncts kill this.

Bottle sampled at BC Cider Fest 2024, pours a clear purple with a small white head. Nose has plenty of lavender and floral notes. Flavour is very sweet, with plenty of lavender and floral notes in general, moderate acidity, and medium residual sweetness. Not much complexity or depth. Mediocre at best.

Poured from the tap. Hazy blonde with small white head. Apple and a healthy dose of pineapple juice. Decent, but unbalanced - too much pineapple juice.

Bottle at Weathered 2022, pours a clear pale blonde with a small white head. Aroma is super floral, with plenty of grape skins and intense perfumey notes. Flavour is intensely floral, with grape skins, perfumey floral notes, and light apple skins. Bone dry, with intense floral character—too much for me. It's alright but needs more balance and subtleties.

Pale straw body and fast gone foam with little visible carbonation. Heavy sweet pumpkin and ginger on the nose, more akin to pumpkin pie, crust all in. Flavour is a tart apple with cinnamon, vague ginger and holiday spice. A little thin for what it is. Not too bad but the pumpkin isn't showing its face much.
