Description
Cedar Cider is a farm based cidery located in the Hazelmere Valley, South Surrey, British Columbia. Our focus is on 100% organic farming practices, growing heritage trees and picking the fruit by hand. We produce small batch natural ciders, using wild yeasts, barrel aging and barrel ferments to obtain complex flavours highlighting the unique qualities of the fruits. All of our product is unpasteurized and unfiltered, with no sugars or acids added. Best kept cold.
Our orchards were established to include dessert, bittersweet, and bittersharp apple varieties grown from heirloom and heritage trees. The orchards are located in the Campbell River Valley, along the Fraser River in Agassiz, and the north Arrow Lake in British Columbia. The inspiration for natural ciders comes from a history and enjoyment of basque and west country styles from the old world.

On tap at Farmhouse Festival 2018, pours a cloudy blonde with a small white head. Aroma brings out bright tart pears with a touch of wild yeast. Flavour is similar, with tons of bright pears upfront, gentle acidity and light funk. Nicely balanced, with plenty of depth. Very good.

On tap at Farmhouse Festival 2018, pours a cloudy dull pink with a tiny white head. Aroma brings out light blackberries, with a hint of cheap bourbon. Flavour is along the same lines, with cheap bourbon and a touch of pith. Not too cohesive or well-balanced. Meh.

On tap at Farmhouse Festival 2018, pours a cloudy blonde with a tiny white head. Aroma brings out cheap JD barrels, with light acidic apples. Flavour is cheap and harsh, with harsh barrels and light apple acidity. This isn't pleasant - harsh and not balanced. No good.

On tap at 12 Kings, pours a hazy blonde with a small white head. Nose brings out the white wine yeast, along with dry apple skins, and some champagne-like effervescence. Flavour follows in the same vein, with a dry crisp apple skin character, accentuated by the white wine yeast. Dry, crisp and nicely made, but nothing overly special.

On tap at 12 Kings, pours a clear blonde with a tiny head. Nose brings out crisp apples, light sweetness and cereal notes. Flavour is bone dry, with lots of crisp apples and light apple core. Crisp carbonation and bone dry. Nothing spectacular - another ordinary, uninspired cider coming out of BC.
