Muddy chestnut colour. Not much head. Aroma is kind of off. Palate reveals more - a harshly phenolic brew that is thin, without any particular malt or hop character. Everything is subsumed by the fermentation issues. I mean, pilot or no, you know it’s gone wrong, why serve it?

Odd Society barrel, so expecting a lavender bomb. I didn’t think much of the regular tripel. The nose is big Odd Society lavender. On the palate, definitely sticky, lots of lavender. Finish is closer to being balanced due to the spiciness the barrel imparts. Mediocre base beer is rarely saved by the barrel, but I do think this is one of the better contexts for an odd society gin barrel - it should be fairly compatible with a tidier tripel.

Golden, bright, thin head. Nice lacing, too. Aroma shows a light pale malt note. Sadly the palate shows butter up front, along with an earthy hop bitterness. You could make a case that this is aiming for Czech pilsner, actually. Those less sensitive to diacetyl will find a good beer here. But for me, my beer glass is one place I don’t like the taste of brown butter.

On tap at Faculty, pours a clear amber with a small beige head. Aroma is restrained, with bready caramel and very light English hops. Flavour is along the same lines, with light English hops and bready caramel malt. Clean and nicely balanced, but not particularly interesting or authentic.

On tap at Faculty, pours a clear blonde with a small white head. Aroma brings out cereal malts, corn and barely a trace of hops. Flavour is very restrained, with cereal malt sweetness, straw and pretty much no happiness. Dull, lifeless and underhopped. Another pointless beer from Faculty.

On tap. Pours a murky turbid milky yellow with little head. Aromas of herbal porridge. Flavors of creamed wheat and metallic peppermint. An interesting concept but very odd delivery.

Draft - Almost buttery fruit. Clear reddish with a small white head. Acidic and cranberry with a simple finish.

On tap at 12 Kings, pours a clear ruby red with a small pink head. Aroma brings out lots of fruity red berries, some lacto and perfumey acidity. Flavour brings out acidic red berries, some pith and a touch of lacto. Not anything close to a real Berliner. Rather sweet and too acidic. Not good.

Opaque and pale with a thin head. Smells tart, yoghurty and quite yeasty. Tart flavour with mild pear. The fruit is overpowered by the yeastiness. Muddy and messy...lacks brightness, complexity or most anything else you’d want.

Gold, hazy, no head though. Vague nose at best offers bubblegum. Sticky, plasticy, neither hop nor yeast shows through. Look, there’s a thousand New World breweries that have utterly botched tripel, so not picking on Faculty, but fuck. Dry beer this strong, with sick complexity that doesn’t come from brett or barrel? This is a very technical beer style. Faculty has made strides of late but they aren’t ready for tripel.
