Description
Old Chimneys Brewery was started in 1995 by Alan Thomson, a Master Brewer who celebrated 40 years of brewing in 2017.

Located in Market Weston on the Norfolk/Suffolk border, Old Chimneys has achieved an enviable reputation for beer quality. The flagship brand,
Good King Henry Special Reserve, has for 8 years been the highest rated English beer on ratebeer.com

Alan ceased brewing at Market Weston in April 2019 to concentrate on collaborative brewing with top quality brewers in the UK and abroad,
starting with Grain (Norfolk), Northern Monk (Leeds) and Wylam (Newcastle).

The regular Good King Henry is now brewed under Alan’s supervision at Grain Brewery. The strength has been increased to 10% abv, and for the first time in 20 years it is available in KeyKeg as well as cask.

Changed to a client brewer as of 2019 on Brewver as Alan continues to brew elsewhere with the Old Chimneys name, mostly at Grain Brewery.

Thank you cgarvieuk. 500 ml. bottle sampled @ Pre-Borefts Ratebeer Tasting 2016. Dark brown amber, off-white head. Nose is dull sweet empty honey & basic malt, cereal, hollow. Taste is metallic, bitter cereal, dull, insecticide, herbal, lightly vegetable. Body is fizzy empty vegetable malts. Not very impressive to say the least, didn’t enjoy it too much.

Bottle shared @ Borefts Pre-tasting. Red-brown color, small to average sized off-white head. Smell and taste lightly malts, sweetness, floral sweetness, blossomy sweetness. Decnt body and carbonation. Meh.

Bottle shared @ Borefts Pre-tasting. Hazy brownish color, average to medium sized off-white head. Smell and taste malts, sweetness, a weird kind of fruityness in there, a hint of glue as well, caramellised sugar. Bit weird, not my kind of beer.

Bottle. Red color with tan head. Aroma is bubblegum, toffee. Taste is more toffee and bubblegum. Low carbonation. Nice.

Bottle. Amber-brown color with white head. Aroma is caramel, very sweet, some fruity notes. Taste is more caramel and some fruity notes again. Medium carbonation. Average.

Sampled @ Pre-Borefts-Tasting 2016. Trübes orange braunes Bier mit geringen beigen Schaumkrone. Geruch sehr hopfig, rote Früchte, leicht holzig. Geschmack nach roten Früchten, sehr malzig, bitter, Gewürze.

Bottle at Pre-Borefts tasting. Hazy amber with beige head. Caramel, red wine, light dust, sweet malts, dried red berries, light yeasty. Medium sweet and almost medium bitter. Medium bodied with soft feel. Not bad.

Bottle at the pre-Borefts tasting, Den Haag, 2016. Poured a murky medium brown with a round white head. The aroma is red berry fruit, yeast, mineral. The flavour is moderate sweet, light bitte with a light watery bubbly mineral metallic hop bitter palate. Medium to light bodied with lively carbonation.
