Description
Old Chimneys Brewery was started in 1995 by Alan Thomson, a Master Brewer who celebrated 40 years of brewing in 2017.
Located in Market Weston on the Norfolk/Suffolk border, Old Chimneys has achieved an enviable reputation for beer quality. The flagship brand,
Good King Henry Special Reserve, has for 8 years been the highest rated English beer on ratebeer.com
Alan ceased brewing at Market Weston in April 2019 to concentrate on collaborative brewing with top quality brewers in the UK and abroad,
starting with Grain (Norfolk), Northern Monk (Leeds) and Wylam (Newcastle).
The regular Good King Henry is now brewed under Alan’s supervision at Grain Brewery. The strength has been increased to 10% abv, and for the first time in 20 years it is available in KeyKeg as well as cask.
Changed to a client brewer as of 2019 on Brewver as Alan continues to brew elsewhere with the Old Chimneys name, mostly at Grain Brewery.

0,275l bottle at home during Charity Tasting. Black color, small tan head. Smells soy sauce, bitter chocolate, nutty, spices. Nice smell. Full body, soft carbonation. Tastes soy sauce, peppery, toffee, bit smoky, oxidized, some bitter chocolate. Finishes lightly sweet with notes of soy sauce, peppery and sherry. Nice one overall, very old school

Panda at home, thanks to Kenneth, 28/01/2025.
Hazed chestnut brown topped with a lasting light beige head, lacing ensues.
Nose is orange zest, brown bread, dark malts, fruit cake mix, dates, figs, toffee.
Taste comprises dark malts, spice, booze tunes, dates, caramel, orange peel, cacao nibs, stewed fruits, raisins.
Medium bodied with bite, fine carbonation, semi drying close with a balanced kiss of alcohol.
Tidy sipper ... I don't tend to get on with orange flavours in beers in general but this one was fairly well integrated.

A mild haze on this amber beer, small bubbly cream colour head. Smooth palate, slightly soft, decent fine carbonation, good enough for this barleywine. Soft but rich caramel and cream malts. A nice ripe orange vibe, slightly floral. The added karakas (hello Gary, are you out there somewhere mate?) integrates pretty well. Airy smooth finish, leaves a mildly bitter toffee linger. A light and simple barleywine that drinks very easy.
