Amber, bright, with a nice Aussie hop nose. Light bitterness and a bit of malt stickiness.

Medium brown. Fair bit of butter on the nose but it fades out under some raisiny toffeeish dark malts...those are great. Good body. Don’t need the butter.

Hazy dark blond color. Dry Pale Ale (i.e. missing Lager characteristics), a bit hoppy. Holy crap, this is a diacetyl bomb. I can drink it because diacetyl doesn’t offend me, but what offends me is that breweries are putting this stuff for sale, and we are paying for it.

On tap at the Alibi Room, pours a clear golden. Nose is a diacetyl bomb - nothing but infection here. Flavour is the same - man these guys really have a problem with these diacetyl infections. Undrinkable.

Draft - Buttery and bready. Clearish gold with a decent white head. Bready pale malts, very English in its style.

Bottle - Bready malts, light currents and some hops. Ruby red with a decent white head. Bready, light currents and a decent hop note. Very odd for a mild, but an interesting one. The currents offer a sweet and light tartness and they hops are pretty pronounced for an English beer. Still decent though.

Draught at Alibi Room, Vancouver, as Red Collar Simcoe Hopped English Pale Ale
Hazy deep blond color. Mild butter aroma, and quite strong butter flavor; the mouthfeel is off-dry, there is some flavor of cereals, enough bitterness, but the hop qualities are muffled.
This is a diacetyl bomb, not very pleasant.

Appearance - 8 | Aroma - 6 | Flavor - 6 | Texture - 6 | Overall - 6

Draught at St. Augustine’s, Vancouver
Dark color, almost black, with compact head. Some roasted nuts, dark caramel, but also a tiny trace of diacetyl. Correct body strength, moderate sweetness, but not enough malt profile.
Doppelbock is not an easy style and this one doesn’t nail it.
Said so, it’s not a bad beer.

Appearance - 8 | Aroma - 6 | Flavor - 7 | Texture - 6 | Overall - 7

Draught at Alibi Room, Vancouver
Dark mahogany color, almost black, with small creamy beige head. Quite dry, with both dark chocolate and roasted malt profile, in balance, but it has a clear butter component in the aroma and flavor.
So, if you can stand diacetyl, a quite good beer, although likely flawed.

Appearance - 8 | Aroma - 6 | Flavor - 6 | Texture - 6 | Overall - 6

Draught at St. Augustine’s, Vancouver
Golden color, clean, with compact head. Light aroma, very light esters. Good body strength, sweet, but not much malt flavor, light fruity touch, ordinary bitterness; too much alcohol perception.
Nice beer, a bit too sweet for a Tripel.
