Bottle from Toby’s Commercial Drive
Beautiful dark mahogany color. On the positive side, it has some very nice biscuity and caramelly malt; on the negative side, it has some diacetyl. It’s rather dry but quite smooth too. The very light lingering sourness is another disturbing element.
Good starting point with the concept, but with some troubles in the execution .

Draft - Sweet grapefruit and light resin. Clearing gold with a rich beige head. Little candy grapefruit and some pithy bitterness and a dry finish. Not bad.

On tap at Black Kettle, pours a deep dark mahogany / brown with a medium tan head. Aroma brings out dark fruits and roasted notes. Flavour is on the fruitier side for a porter, with dark dried fruits and some roast. Quite dry and well-rounded, maintaining high drinkability. Good stuff.

On tap at Black Kettle, pours a dark amber with a medium beige head. Aroma brings out light caramel and toasted malt. Flavour is very light, with toasted caramel characterizing this. Light body with a pleasant aftertaste. Good for a boring style.

2014-05-3-, draught at St. Augustine’s, Vancouver, 6-3-6-3-13=31
Cloudy blond color with a darker hue. The aroma is simple, mildly spicy. The mouthfeel is rather dry; the flavor too is quite simple, but at least it has a nice bready touch; mild spicy impression from the yeast; correct bitterness.

Cloudy blond color with compact head. The aroma is a bit green (vegetables), but it has a nice presence of bread, and delicate banana. Dry mouthfeel, but not weak; nice bready flavor, with correct bitterness, light spice and banana touch.
Nicely made.

Cloudy light amber color with compact head. the aroma is nice, fruity, but later followed by some yeast and vegetables. Rather dry mouthfeel; some caramel flavor, strong bitterness, but it still has a bit too much vegetable component, probably needs some tweaking with the yeast.

Cloudy light amber color. The aroma is fruity, quite impressive, with some sweat. Nice malt flavor with light residual sweetness. Strong bitterness. Warning: light vegetable touch I’m the end.

Beautiful hazy red amber color with small head. The aroma is not convincing, chemicals, maybe phenol. Some malt flavor, caramel, lightly bready, but again some chemical and vegetable presence, fermentation to be tuned maybe. The final is rather weak.

Beautiful copper color, cloudy, with compact head. Mild aroma, some malt, delicate fruity touch, possibly some butter. Soft mouthfeel; mild malt and caramel flavor, with a very light biscuity touch, light residual sweetness, light fruity esters; ordinary bitterness level. Easy but pleasant.

Amber color, clean. Mild aroma, with some malt. Soft mouthfeel, light malt flavor, light bread, a bit too much carbonation; the final is rather weak. Simple but ok.
