Description

Bottle @ Bierpunt, Hasselt. A bit hazy orange color, full sized stable quite dense off-white head that lasts for a long time. Aroma is malts, sweetish, blossomy. Taste malts, again blossomy, sweetish yeastyness, with a slight bitter finish. Quite ok.

Bottled. Deep amber colour with a mediumsized creamy white head, that leaves good lace. Aroma is caramel malts, some biscuits as well as some mild floral and spiced notes. Flavour is quite crisp maltiness along with some slight metal, floral and grassy notes. Finishes with a bitter, but quite herbal tone to it.

Bottle from Bierhalle Deconinck. Regional Belgian ale commissioned by a hobby brewery called Savio. Irregular, thick, frothy and stable, off-white, cobweb-lacing head over a deep coppery amber coloured beer with lightly brownish hue, hazy from the start, with vivid sparkling. Aroma is initially unpleasantly dominated by very strong tin can-like iron (head stabilizer perhaps, or prolonged contact with iron equipment somewhere in the brewing process?), but as it warms up, notes of caramel, peach, dried orange peel, dried red berries, red apple, aniseed, dry earth and camomile rise up from the glass. Fruity onset but not overly estery, hints of redcurrant, red apple and light banana but all somewhat restrained, residual brown sugar sweetness, fizzy carbonation; soft, bready and caramelly middle with ongoing brown sugar, bit honeyish too, but also metallic, with the iron coming up again and carrying on till deep into the finish, where it meets a mild toasted bitterish touch and earthy, somewhat herbal hop bitterness, but the honeyish sweetness remains, without becoming too sticky and accentuated by a vaguely aniseed-like sweet spiciness. Too metallic and otherwise a bit cliché, but drinkable. Oh, and boo to those very obviously fake ratings entered here by supposed friends of the brewer on January 27th and 28th!

(Bottle, 0.33 l, at Flying Dutch, 20160825) The beer poured deep amber and cloudy. Its head was medium sized and white. Aroma had malts, caramel and Belgian style yeast. Palate was medium bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were  caramel,  Belgian style yeast, grass, malts and bitterness. Aftertaste was sweet and bitter. A bit too sweet brew with Belgian twist.

330 ml. bottle sampled. Purchased @ ALBO. BBF 15/10/2017. Clear amber, fizzy tanned head. Nose is strange herbal sweetness, cough syrup, soap, rain water & leaves, some wet leaves. Taste is sweet burned sugar, caramel, cheap toffee candy, metallic, herbal, metallic sweet thin syrup, low leaves & soap. Thin cough syrup body. There are some minor barley wine qualities here, its too metallic, soapy, herbal etc. for me. Bit conflicting, quite sweet but not really there with leaves & soap. Not too crazy about it but as a poorer Belgian it’s not the worst.
