Description

Very cloudy murky pale beige beer, huge aery white head, unstable, falls down quickly, bit adhesive. Aroma: bit vegetal, dirty, sourish, smells pretty infected, overripe fruits, bad. MF: very carbonated, medium body. Taste: sourish, vegetable soup, wet grains, unpleasant bitterness. Aftertaste: bitter, vegetable soup, wet grains, unpleasant bitterness. Aftertaste: bitter, vegetal, green banana, sourish, very soapy finish, wet grain soup, really bad, something is definitely wrong.

Slightly hazy blond to yellow beer, creamy white head, pretty stable, bit adhesive. Aroma: very yeasty, lots of banana, Westmalle yeast is my guess. Spicy as well, coriander, a bit sweet, overripe fruits. MF: lively carbon, medium body. Taste: rather sweet, sugary, nothing malty at all, ripe banana, sugary. Aftertaste: more sugar and banana, pretty sweet, big nope.

33cl bottle shared with Kermis. GUSHER!. Thick creamy white head. Cloudy blond pour. A slighly hoppy triple. I marked it down a point because of the gushing

Bottle shared, gusher alert! Near clear golden with a big white head. Aroma of citrus, yeast, herbs, coriander, light malt and caramel. Flavour is moderate sweet and bitter. Medium bodied with light carbonation (at least after the lively start). Points marked down due to the bad gushing. [13-07-2016]

Blond colour with big soapy head. Lots of yeast in the aroma. Fairly light and clean although there’s a strong bitterness coming through in the finish. Not particularly hoppy though.

Bottle. Pours bit unclear, blonde with a big, yet unstable white head. Smell is bit bitter, some sweet aspects as well. Clearly still has malts and even fruity yeastnotes, so not as hopped as expected. Taste is mostly yeasty, overipe fruits in its own typical way. On top of that some bitterness ( yeast as well as hops ) Clear grainy notes. Some green ( EU ) hoppyness, no real hoparoma though. Not bad, but do we really need a ’tripel hop’ ( this name is soo stereotypically Belgian, so duvel-tripel-hop-inspired and has become such a hollow name) especially that if you use HOP in the name, people will expect to taste it (more than they do now) .

Resurrection of a tripel formerly made in Brasschaat near Antwerp, brewed at Boelens but commissioned by a company set up with the sole reason to promote this beer. For sale at some Carrefour supermarkets in the region and specialized beer stores. Beautiful orange golden colour, lighly hazy with quiet fizz, supporting a fairly loose, irregularly shaped, moussy, snow white head. Medium strong aroma of unripe pineapple, apple peel, rainwater and damp cloth, peach, dough, quite a lot of freshly cut grass, cantaloupe, orange peel, young ’jenever’, honey, bubblegum, spring flowers and light biscuit. Crisp, fruity and sweet onset, honeyish even, with suggestions of overripe peach, blue grape and unmistakable banana, smooth and slick mouthfeel with low carbo, citrus peel sourishness bringing refreshment, slick honeyish and lightly caramelly malt sweetness ensuing, with a creamy mouthfeel much like Westmalle Tripel as well as yeasty notes leading to a malty, sweetish finish where grassy and lightly spicy hop bitterness brings balance, but not lasting very long, so that the yeasty and malty fruitiness will be the last thing you’ll have in your throat after swallowing. A hint of warming, gin-like alcohol is clearly there, but does not descend into astringency. Nothing truly off-putting here, enjoyable as a decent tripel, but a bit too ’well-mannered’: this will surely not make any difference in the world of Belgian tripels, which is already overcrowded as it is; still, it does bear a striking resemblance to the archetypical Westmalle Tripel, hauling from the same province. I personally don’t think we need again another stereotypical tripel and certainly not an imitation of Westmalle Tripel as this seems to be intended more than usual for tripels, but being Belgian and respecting our beer traditions, I can somehow appreciate the fact that a beer from a bygone era is, let’s say, artificially resuscitated. And Westmalle Tripel is, after all, the ultimate standard when it comes to tripels, isn’t it...

Thanks to Kraddel for the bottle. 330 ml. bottle @ home. BBF 14/09/2016. A new Belgian contract brewery that released a tripel as their first beer. Sigh. Contract brewed @ Boelens which makes a lot of soulless and bad beers in my personal opinion. Belgian in all the bad ways. Pours hazy golden / orange with a huge collapsing & uneven white head. Nose is very heavy sugar sweetness, candy, vanilla sweet, oddly sweet with light yoghurt-like yeast in the back, lactic vanilla in a very odd mixed kind of way,… okay. Explosive carbonation. Overly alcoholic and heavy estery, bitter plastic ester, light yoghurt yeast, overly sugary in a grain alcohol kind of way, light vanilla, big fusels, lightly moldy plastic sweet orange peel in the back, finish is bitter esters, fusels & grain alcohol,… Horribly fizzy & light yoghurt yeast. I know that some people appreciate this kind of beers but I do not like them, I do not understand their appeal besides the fact that they taste like booze bombs & are likely to get you quite plastered. Milky creamed corn & crazily big carbonation. All I can say that it is far from the bottom as far as beers like this go, this is actually manageable for the category. Even with a little bit of age, I know that this will start tasting terrible or rather it will turn for truly the worst.
