(Bottle, Oude Arsenaal, Antwerpen, 24 Oct 2013) Reddish brown colour with frothy, beige head. Malty nose with notes of caramel, raisins, brown sugar and dark bread. Malty taste with caramel, brown sugar, raisins, prunes, dried fruit and a mild spicy bitterness in the finish. Almost full body, with a certain sweetness. Well made Belgian brown ale. Quite nice.

(Draught at Groote Witte Arend, Antwerpen, 24 Oct 2013. 6.0%) Reddish amber colour with frothy, off-white head. Malty, fruity nose with notes of caramel, cherries and dark fruit. Fruity, malty taste with caramel, candy sugar and a touch of cherries. Medium body, with a certain sweetness. Low bitterness. Quite balanced and tasty, with a gentle cherry character and not as sweet as expected. Quite nice.

Clear caramel colour, cream head. Malty aroma, iron, caramel, sweet syrup. Flavour of iron, caramel, burnt sugar, malts. Finish caramel, lingering sweetness. Not my favourite bruin.

Rich deep dark brown coloured body with a very thin, half centimetre tall tan head. Aroma of alcohol, raisins, figs, nuts, earth, grapes and more pit fruits. Medium-bodied; Deep roasty malt flavours with a ton of pit fruit and basementy malt flavours with a little sweetness, some subtle fig notes and a bit of caramel, all with the roasted malt at play. Aftertaste shows a good balance of the malt and sweetness, but very little else - not too much complexity - tastes similar to an old ale, but the belgie qualities are hard to deny. I sampled this 33cL bottle purchased from Beer Mania in Bruxelles, Belgium on 30-June-2012 for €2,25 sampled at home in Washington on the other side of the pond on 10-August-2013, 12 hours before heading back to Belgium.

Draught at De Groote Witte Arend. Clear, deeper golden colour with a medium sized, dense white head. Fruity aroma with yeasts, caramel, oranges, rich malts, alcohol and hay. Taste is sweet. Medium to full body, creamy texture and a soft carbonation. Finishes dry with a hearthy amount of pale malts. A bit "fat". However, still a nice beer.

Tap at De Groote Witte Arend, Antwerp. Poured a clear medium amber with a huge frothy head. The aroma is dry and yeasty. The flavour is medium bitter with a big hoppy, malty palate. Not a bad beer at all.

Bottle @ home shared with Thompson. Hazy golden color, full sized white head that leaves good lacing and lasts for a long while. Smell malts, some overripe fruits, some yeast. Taste malts, lightly yeast, a nice fruity touch. Quite balanced, I like it. Nice blond.
