About
It all began when Jan-Léonard Moortgat and his wife founded the Moortgat brewery farm in 1871. Around the turn of the century, Moortgat was one of the over 3,000 breweries operating in Belgium. Jan-Leonard experimented by trial and error, and his top-fermented beers were soon greatly appreciated in the brewery's home town of Puurs and far beyond. Before long, the Brussels bourgeoisie was also won over by his beers. Business was booming and Jan-Leonard's two sons, Albert and Victor, joined the company. There was a clear division of labour: Albert became the brewer, Victor was responsible for delivering the beer to Brussels by horse and dray. In 1923 the production of Duvel began with just a few crates. Today, Duvel is enjoyed literally all around the world (in over 50 countries) by countless beer lovers. Bright golden with a large head that disappeared quickly. Fruity and spicy aroma. A slightly sour shortlived aftertaste. The strength is well hidden. Refreshing.

A belgian tripel. blond/golden in its appearence with a huge white head which could have been a pilsener head. Much stronger than the average pilsener though. dont let the colour of the beer fool you. Duvel means Devil and is has 8,5 in alcohol. A great simple and easy drinkable tripel. One of the better commercialized beers in Belgium! Hahahah - Classic rate. Too much alcohol, straw, grains and malts. Its a bit rough overall. 3,9-3,5

(Bottled) Orange/amber colour with a big off-white head. Nose and taste is spicy and fruity with hints of citrus and berries (raspberries). Sweet, but not too sweet, and with a drier, bitter finish. Good balance between sweetness and bitterness. Nice enough, but not brilliant.

Botttle. Very nice peach-apple malt aroma. Dark tan color - cloudy with moderate head. Lightly sweet apple flavor initially with a peppery acidic finish. Moderate carbonation. Very nice.

Bottle. Molasses and dried fruit aroma. Cloudy dark brown color with small head. Dark raisin malt flavor with moderate acidity and carbonation. Pretty good.

Golden color with so much lasting head I wish it was my girlfriend! Smell was very tart and barky. Tasted bitter at first with a malty after taste.

Draught. Reddish amber colour, big foamy head. Aroma of fruits, sourness and hops. Flavour of fruits, hops and sourness. Still kind of (un)pleasantly sweet. This is one of the beers which are not crap, yet I don’t like it too much. HArd to say if it’s very good or bad.

750 ml corked bottle. Golden body with big white head. Nice estery aroma of fruits and spice — banana and plum with pepper and a touch of clove. The flavor is moderately sweet and lightly bitter. It finishes lightly sweet and moderately bitter. The tastes ran through notes of spice, pepper, orange, lemon and apple on top of a sweetness that gave way to a bitterness at the finish. Above-average carbonation. The ale was comfortable and somewhat soft on the mouth. The alcohol was not noticable except in the pepper notes. I don’t know whether my tastes have changed or this beer has, but I find it less complex than I thought it was.

Deep copper body, thick but dissipating light tan head. Thick toffee, chocolate-covered banana, and caramel aroma, with sharp notes of alcohol and touches of dark fruit and spice. Bready, toasty body with toffee and light hints of chocolate, earthy and cookie-like. Sharp carbonation but a rather delicate body for 8% ABV. Somewhat bitter, spicy finish. Quite drinkable at this ABV level.

Bottle. A good but not fantastic belgian strong ale. Friothy excellent mostly lasting head. Pale yellow colour. Powerfull hoppy and yeasty aroma. Powerfull taste and long finish. oily palate.
