(Bottle, bottled Feb 13 2015) Dark brown colour, almost black, with brief beige head. Malty, boozy nose with notes of dark chocolate, tamarind, oak wood, vanilla fudge, coconut, dark bread and brown sugar. Malty, sweet, boozy taste with chocolate toffee, oak wood, tamarind, vanilla, black pepper, dark bread, black coffee, brown sugar, bourbon and a mild cacao bitterness in a warming finish. Full body, sweet. Boozy and powerful, but really rich and tasty. Great beer!

Notes from March 2011 Single can from that new place called Good Beer in the city. Poured into an irregular Sam Adams Perfect Pint glass(I really have to stop buying clearance shelf glassware). It's a bit wobbly. Bit of a gusher. I get most of it into the glass, while managing the pasty, bleached white head. Patchy lace. Body is a clear, golden straw color. Smell is fresh with light lemon grass, saltines, & a bit of yeast. Little bit of dish soap. Upfront taste is barely sweet straw. Overall flavor is a lingering minerally/herbal bitterness. Stale water. Some salt. Empty. Feel is watery & under-carbonated. Pricey for what it is. Very much lacking. :/

Draft at Here's How. Hazy golden pour with a creamy white head that stays with you throughout the session. Aroma of coriander, Belgian yeast, touch of lemon. Taste is so smooth, full, Belgiany, savory, kiss of lemon.

(Bottle, vintage 2018) Black colour with brief, frothy, beige head. Malty, roasted, vinous nose with notes of sweet espresso, coconut, vanilla, rum, oak wood, dark chocolate and spices. Malty, roasted taste with sweet espresso, dark chocolate, rum, coconut, vanilla, raisins, wood and a vinous finish with a balanced roasty bitterness in the finish. Full body, quite sweet. Rich, vinous and warming. More balanced than the 16% would suggest. Great beer!

12 oz. bottle. Pours a clear, brown color, with a big, frothy, tan head. The aroma is lime juice, tannic cranberry, caramel, mild leather, black pepper, and hay. Dry and musty, with a mellow, hard tart flavor. Medium body, with an acidic, sharp palate. Quality and interesting.

12oz can from Hops & Bottles. Cloudy golden pour, one finger frothy white head. Aroma offers light grainy aroma, hoppy notes. Taste is bready, citrusy, light astringency, lemon peel. Dries out near the end.

I have a 12 oz can that I believe came from the local craft beer store, stamp on the bottom says pkg on 4/10/24. I’m drinking out of a tulip glass this evening that I got from an Austin brewery long ago, the pour is happening now. The view is a completely clear, bright gold body finished with a consistent cover of totally white foam. The scent indicates an old school IPA, there’s hops, some grassiness and citrus. And finally the taste is straightforward and decent. Plenty of hops influence, dry crackers, lemons, malt, a touch of grapefruit and perhaps cedar. Not an inspirational IPA but certainly all right.

Draught @ George Keeley, Manhattan (Mar 2024). Looking at the ratings you can see that people either love or hate it. I'm in the first group. It's inky black with a small foamy tan head, coffee-whiskey aroma, low carbonation, bitter peaty taste typical to Islay single malts over sweetish background, serious alcohol undertones, thin body, long peaty finish. As I said in the beginning, I loved it, Islay single malts being my favorite.
