22 oz. bottle, pours black with a small tan head. Aroma brings out lots of Mexican coffee, cocoa, dark fruits, and subtle bourbon. Flavour is unusual, with dark fruits, toasted cocoa, Mexican coffee, and a touch of bourbon. Unorthodox in the sense that it's quite fruity, almost a bit of tartness, which sort of seems like it's from the bourbon. A bit off kilter, but not bad. Good, but not exactly what I want from this style.

Poured up on tap at the brewpub where it exhibits a deep dark used motor oil colored body that supports a thin ring of tan foam. The aroma offers up dark roasted malts, a bit of marshmallow, booze and a sense of raspberry like fruity esters. The taste delivers smooth slick sweet booze nuanced dark roasted malts and a touch of burnt malts and then a firm balancing wealth of boozing vibrancy. Intermingling with those notes are layers of chocolate. It leaves a lingering boozy warmth that reaches down and into the stomach. Fantastic sipper.

Pint can pours with a murky dirty opaque dull gold copper body that supports a nice near white head of foam. The aroma offers up tangelo, peach, orange and grapefruit rind with a hint of spicy hoppiness and bready malts well off in the background. The taste delivers a clean even hoppy assault of juicy tangelo and orange and bitter grapefruit up front. Soon after a layer of soft juicy tropical peach and mango are revealed just as a bitter spicy hoppiness takes hold. This is well restrained and at the same time bold and deep in flavour. Solid offering that hides its ABV well.

Pint can pours with a clear pale gold colored body that supports a semi frothy bright white head of foam. The modest aroma offers up a sense of lemon, spicy hops and then a bit of cracker like maltiness. The taste delivers up a modestly over carbonated for the style mouth feel that pushes forward notes of spicy bitter hops, a dash of acidic lemon bite and then the modest degree of maltiness to midway. The malts take on a faint cracker to bready malt character as you're trying to asses where the hops are going as the finish approaches. The bitter hoppiness is pretty forward and a tad brash riding on the shoulders of the elevated sense of carbonation. This is definitely a top American brewed Kölsch and would improve if naturally carbonated and gravity poured out of a cask drug up from the cellar.
