On tap at Schmohz. I’m glad I just read the description because I kept thinking to myself, "this is a dunkelweizen." Cloudy dark orange-brown body, medium buff head. Caramely body with brown sugar, circus peanut-banana, and clove. Slight medicinal notes. At first this seemed a bit stale, but improved after a few sips. Good heft and complexity. Pleasant.

On tap at Schmohz. Hazy yellow-orange body, thin buff head. Grassy, biscuity aroma with appropriate sweetness. Decent flavor profile, with cookie and lemon, paired with grassy hops. Somewhat metallic. Long, earthy hops finish. Light but not watery. A quaffable pilsener.

Rating #1700.
On tap at Schmohz. Described as "the ridiculously good beer," with a label featuring a smiling pickle and strawberries. Very peculiar. Anyway, the body was cloudy light yellow-orange, topped by a thin off-white head. The aroma was light and sweet, with grassy hops and light, fresh strawberry. Sadly, the body was thin to the point of flavorless, and what was there didn’t come together well. A touch of wet socks and sour astringency paired with the light strawberry skin flavors. It seems like there’s a base that can be improved on here, though. The concept of a light summer beer with a touch of strawberry is a refreshing one, particularly on an 86 degree May day.

On tap at Schmohz. Deep red-brown body, medium buff head. Butterscotch-dominated aroma. Ugh. A bit of toast beneath the diacetyl. The flavor profile was ruined by obscene buttered popcorn, overwhelming the earthy hops notes. It’s too bad they’re serving such a flawed keg at the pub. The other ratings suggested promise, but my rating is generous for the corrupted waste that made it to my pint glass.

Sampled at the 2nd annual Michigan Winter Beer Festival, Lansing. An outrageous excess of a beer, caking the mouth with nutmeg. I didn’t pick up the massive ABV underneath the cloying spices. Extreme does not equal good.

On tap at Schmohz. Deep red-brown body, thin off-white head. Very light, toasty aroma that would have made a stronger impression if the beer was served at an appropriate temperature. Alas. The toasty body opened up a bit as it warmed, revealing caramels and dark fruit skin, with red grape notes and noticeable alcohol. Not a bad effort.

Sampled at the Michigan Winter Beer Fest, Lansing. Dark brown body, thin creamy off-white head. Muddled, unrefined malt aroma with hints of brown sugar and toast in addition to alcohol. Started with dark fruits and a pleasant hint of "twigs and berries," but these characteristics faded away into a rather undefined malt sweetness and alcohol tones.

On tap at Schmohz. Slightly hazy amber-orange body, thin off-white head. Earthy, floral, herbal aroma. The flavor surprised me, beginning with fruity (including a touch of strawberry), caramely malts that soon gave way to earthy, herbal hops that never became dominant but left a nice lingering bitterness in the finish. A bit grainy with a touch of Cheerios as well (nudge, nudge...an Irish Ale would be delicious!). Medium-bodied, full-flavored. Pity I could only finish half a glass after eating a giant gyro for lunch. The brewery’s best beer so far IMO!

On tap at Schmohz. Deep chocolate-brown body, thin persistent tan (almost ochre) head. Milk chocolate and toast in the aroma, which was hard to detect when the beer was cold. The operative word for the flavor is "chocolate!"; the emphasis on chocolate made this very porter-like. Besides the chocolate, there was a hint of dark fruit/caramel to go along with toasted notes and earthy hops. A touch chalky and bitter. Medium-bodied, rich, and not too complex. A solid beer, but I’ll have to try this side-by-side with their porter to work out the differences.

Slightly hazy straw-colored body. Somewhat adjuncty aroma (even though I’m not sure any adjuncts went into this) with sweet, slightly metallic malts and earthy hops. Earthy hops contribute to the biscuity, lightly fruity malt flavor. Thin-medium body. A somewhat maligned style, and this was my least favorite beer at the brewery. Good for the uninitiated, I suppose.
