Description
Weyerbacher Brewing was founded in 1995 in a livery stable located in downtown Easton, Pennsylvania. Eventually outgrowing that small space, we made the move to the 30,000 square foot facility that we still call home today.

Since the beginning, we have established a reputation for making big, full-flavored, high quality brews. While predominantly known for Belgian-style brews including Merry Monks and QUAD, we have an extensive barrel aging program which produces fan favorites including Insanity and Riserva. In recent years, we’ve dipped our toes into IPAs and other lower ABV styles with great success.

Experimenting with different ingredients and brewing techniques, our brewers continue to stretch their creative minds and develop interesting and mind blowing beers that will satisfy your taste for the extraordinary.

On tap at Kickbacks, pours black with almost no head. Aroma reveals notes of bourbon barrels, smoky bacon and medium roast. Flavour is along the same lines, with tart bourbon barrels, vanilla and smoky bacon. A bit tart but the bourbon does shine. Boozy and abrasive, but well-done.

Sampled on draft this beer poured a black color with a medium sized foamy tan head that left great lacing. The aroma was bitter and roasty with cola and dark fruits. The flavor was bitter with anise, floral hops, smoke and a bit of fruit. Long finish. Moderately full bodied.

On tap at Clouds, pours black with a small tan head. Aroma brings out notes of bourbon and coffee upfront, with lots of vanilla and more subdued roast. Flavour is quite intense, with lots of earthy coffee, subdued bourbon, and a touch of vanilla. A bit too earthy and dusty, with a rather chalky palate. I'm not sure this is at its prime, given the high ratings here, but this doesn't seem all that well dialed in.

On tap at The Wine Source, pours a clear copper golden with a small white head. Aroma brings out resinous hops, some piney hops, and caramel. Flavour is along the same lines, with resinous hops, sweet caramel malts, and light pine. Resinous and sweet. Pretty good.

12 ounce bottle into tulip glass; no bottle dating, but is a recent release. Pours slightly hazy medium orange/amber color with a small fairly dense off white head with decent retention, that reduces to a minimal spotty lace cap that lingers. Minimal lacing on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big nutty dark roast coffee, milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, honey, caramel, vanilla, cream, and toasted biscuit; with lighter notes of apricot, cherry, golden raisin, herbal, grass, pepper, and yeast earthiness. Touch of booze in the aromas as it warms, but not overwhelming. Nice aromas with good balance and complexity of coffee, cocoa, cascara tea, bready malt, and light earthy hop notes; with great strength. Taste of big nutty dark roast coffee, milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, honey, caramel, vanilla, cream, and toasted biscuit; with lighter notes of apricot, cherry, golden raisin, herbal, grass, pepper, and yeast earthiness. Light herbal, grassy, peppery hop; and roasted coffee bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of nutty dark roast coffee, milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, honey, caramel, vanilla, cream, toasted biscuit, apricot, cherry, golden raisin, herbal, grass, pepper, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a while. Very nice complexity, robustness, and balance of coffee, cocoa, cascara tea, bready malt, and light earthy hop flavors; with a great roast/hop bitter/sweet balance; and no cloying/acrid/astringent flavors after the finish. Lightly increasing dryness from lingering bitter/roast bitterness and spicy alcohol. Light-medium carbonation and fairly full body; with a very smooth, creamy/bready/grainy, and lightly slick/sticky/chalky mouthfeel that is nice. Lightly increasing warmth of 11.1%, with minimal booziness lingering after the finish. Overall this is a very nice golden imperial stout. All around nice complexity, robustness, and balance of coffee, cocoa, cascara tea, bready malt, and light earthy hop flavors; very smooth and dangerously easy to sip on for the big ABV, with the mellowly bitter/drying finish. Haven't had many of this "style" before, but this is one of the better ones I can recall. Great balance of fruity/nutty coffee, cocoa, cascara tea, and bready malts; with balancing bitterness against sweetness. A very enjoyable and well made offering.

16 ounce can into tulip glass, canned on 5/1/2018. Pours moderately hazy golden orange/amber color with a 2 finger dense and rocky off white head with amazing retention, that reduces to a large cap that lasts. Aromas of big grapefruit, tangerine, lemon, lime, peach, pear, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, papaya, mango, melon, berry, citrus peel/rind, peppercorn, pine, honey, toasted biscuit, light caramel, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of citrus/fruity/tropical/earthy hops and bready malt notes; with great strength. Awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/tropical/earthy hops and bready malt flavors; with an awesome malt/bitterness balance, and no cloying/astringent flavors after the finish. Light-moderate increasing dryness from bitterness. Medium carbonation and medium-full body; with a very smooth, creamy/bready/sticky, and lightly resinous/rindy balanced mouthfeel that is great. Lightly increasing warmth of 10% after the finish. Overall this is an awesome DIPA! All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/tropical/earthy hops and bready malt flavors; very smooth and dangerously easy to drink for the big ABV with the modestly bitter/drying finish, not overly aggressive. Great Citra/Wakatu hop showcase. Very juicy, vibrant, and fairly dank/earthy balanced hops complexity; nice bready malt backbone, not overly sweet/heavy from lingering dryness. A really enjoyable offering, loved the hop profile as expected. Really well done DIPA for the big ABV.
