Draft at the Malt House, during the 1st annual Madison Craft Beer Week. Deep opaque brown-black, some caramel red corners. Foamy off-white head. The coffee comes through strong in the aroma, letting you know this is a different creature. Soft cask carbonation, very creamy and smooth. Lots of roasty chocolate tones. An excellent Coffee Porter, the mellowed carbonation lets the coffee and chocolate shine. Really spot on, excellent.

Draft at Malt House. Murky orange-brown. Very subdued sweet maple syrup and malt tones, just a hint of balancing hops. Mellow, not so carbonated. Somewhat watery and mild for the 9% ABV. Mellow honey tones. Unique.

Bottle. Hazy golden body with a short, white head, rapidly diminishing. Light aroma of sweet malts, toasted grain. The flavor is moderately sweet and lightly bitter. It finishes lightly to moderately sweet and lightly bitter. Light body, watery texture and lively carbonation. Tart, sour rotting apple taste in the finish. Clean beer, except for the off-flavor in the finish.

12 ounce bottle from Badger in Beloit. If Beloit, Wisconsin has a better beer store, I’d be surprised. Then again, Beloit College REJECTED me so I don’t exactly have an encyclopedic knowledge of the town. Pours a hazy amber color with a very large frothy offwhite head. Good head retention and lacing. Slightly green floral hop aroma with a bit of a chlorine note. The taste is candied citrus, chemical notes, faint malts. Tastes weird. Kinda like how I’d expect windshield cleaner to taste. The palate starts strong but instantaneously falls flat. This is just a weird beer.

12 ounce bottle from Badger in Beloit. Pours a hazy straw yellow with a thin white head. Below average head retention. Aroma of toasted grainy malts and a lightly sweet finish reminiscent of graham crackers. Faint herbal hops as well. The taste is tart malts and citrus hops. Some green apple and a bit of toastiness. Thin-medium bodied. Fairly boring but not bad.
